Show product variations as a separate product

#FeatureRequest Could I request a new feature please.
I would like one product to show all (or some) sets of variations as a new/separate product.

So if I had a dress that came in red, pink and blue. And also the sizes S,M,L.
The back end would have one dress product loaded, but the front end would show 3 different dress products. (Essentially the same product, but 3 times) Each product on the front end would show a separate colour as the main image, but show all 3 colour options.

So I would only load one product; a dress that came in 3 colours and 3 sizes. I would choose the “colour” variation to show as separate products (not the “size” variation); so the customer would see:
1 Red dress in S,M,L
1 Pink dress in S,M,L
1 Blue dress in S,M,L

This would save loading the same product 3 times, but it would also keep the stock correct! So if all 3 products were linked to the one product; it wouldn’t matter which product the customer purchased, as all 3 are coming off the one stock product.

You can see the “Set of 2 Laura Ashley Blueprint Collectables Cup and Saucer” is the same product, each with 2 variations, and showing twice.

Interesting post indeed. I am not sure I got the whole picture, but could the following suggestion be a good one?

Why not adding “related items” underneath the Product 1 (let’s say “Red Shirt”), with a unique category of items that would contain the 2 other versions of the shirt (“Blue Shirt” and “Green Shirt”)? As in WIX you can chose the related items you want to show for example underneath the selected item.
