Site Stopped Indexing in Google. Sitemap Problem?

New Site Weirdness…Site Was Indexed…Now It’s Not

I’m hoping someone can help me, as I’m perplexed. I’ve launched over 100 websites in the past 15 years. I’ve never had one not index for me. With this one, it was indexed as of September 5 (see attachment), but now it’s not. It’s not appearing in Google search results. But I do see it in Bing search results. I posted this problem on Reddit and only received one reply from someone who had the same issue. They said, “I believe it had to do with the sitemap Wix was sending out.”

Here’s my timeline:

1. At the beginning of September, I set up the site in Google Search Console.

2. On September 5, I got the email that my site “has been successfully indexed.”

3. On September 7, I got the site up on Analytics and it is registering activity.

4. I noticed on September 11 that the site wasn’t appearing in search results or GSC and asked GSC to index the site. I got an email (see attachment) referencing fixing an issue for “Crawled - currently not indexed.”

5. All my main pages have “Let search index this page” toggled on.

6. The sitemap status is “Success.”

The thing that keeps concerning me (besides the major issue of the site not being indexed by Google) is the odd “Crawled - currently not indexed” message (see attachment).

Can anyone way smarter than me provide any insight on what might be going? Thanks so much.

It’s difficult to tell exactly what’s happening without having a link to the site

”Crawled – currently not indexed” means that Google was able to reach your page, but decided not to put it in the index (it’s more of a “we saw it, but we’re not keeping it in search results yet”). It usually happens when:

  • Google doesn’t think the page has enough unique value compared to what’s already indexed
  • There are site-wide patterns that make Google cautious (thin content, duplication etc)
  • The site is very new and Google is still evaluating

In regards to why it showed before, but now doesn’t:

  • Sometimes Google initially indexes new pages to “test the waters,” then drops them if signals (content, authority, structure) don’t convince it to keep them.
  • A brand-new domain with few backlinks and limited authority may have pages fluctuate in and out of the index until Google has more signals.

I’d recommend confirming the pages don’t show other errors/warnings by testing the live URL in Google’s URL Inspection Tool - URL Inspection Tool - Search Console Help

Also worth doing some work to strengthen authority signals. Add internal links, get at least a few external backlinks, add the site to social profiles, etc.

Thanks, Noah. I had initially posted that on Reddit, so I wanted to be more discreet with the information. Here’s the link. Hope this adds context: https://www.relaunchdigital.com

The entire site was properly put together (no AI, all original content) with all of the SEO checklist requirements completed within Wix dashboard.
