Sitemap File Redirection?

Wix seems to be building a 2-level sitemap file structure.

sitemap.xml looks like this

<sitemapindex>
  <sitemap>
    <loc>https://www . mydomain . com/pages-sitemap.xml</loc>
    <lastmod>2020-12-01</lastmod>
  </sitemap>
</sitemapindex>

The actual sitemap is in pages-sitemap.xml.

2 questions:

  1. Why is Wix doing this?
  2. Does it matter to Google Indexing, or does Google do the right thing with it?

Hey Tim, I don’t really understand your question. What issue are you having? What exactly doesn’t look right to you?

Wix has worked very closely with Google to provide the proper tools and access to Google SEO services to make Wix sites SEO friendly. There’s a lot of good material in the documentation: SEO (Get Found on Google) .

This forum is dedicated to Corvid. For questions that are not related to code you can contact Wix Customer Care . You’ll get better help for your problem there.

Thanks Yisrael. Everywhere in the documentation it talks about sitemap.xml having the actual site map in it. But in this case the actual site map is in pages-sitemap.xml. I am just wondering why there is the level of indirection here, and whether Google will handle it correctly.

Regarding this forum, why is there no forum for non-Corvid questions? For other apps and development I do, forums are the best place to get help. My experience with direct Wix support has not been great.
