Hello. I remember when the new editor buttons got released into beta the team said they’d probably be starting work next to introduce the same design panel for the Strips component. This was over a year ago.
Are we any further forward with this? Still it’s 2020 and we don’t have the ability to add CSS gradients to our strips. Furthermore we don’t have the ability to add gradients to the background of our sites in full - we also need new design options for strips, like the ability to add curves, diagonal lines and shaped dividers to crank up the ‘design’ of our sites.
Using images as gradients just weighs down our sites loading time and they often look pixelated because we have to compress to get them to load faster.
I know strips was a big request for a new design panel back then and I’m just wondering about it’s progress as the team said they’d be introducing this design panel to many components with strips probably coming after the buttons.
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback (and enthusiasm!). I’ll check in with the team and circle back to you if there are any updates on this feature.
Hi
At some point all the editor components will have those advanced design capabilities. We released it for button and not long ago for horizontal menu. At some point we will do it for strips as well, but unfortunately it is not going to be in the upcoming year.
I love Wix but I ended up moving my business website off of Wix for this exact reason. Wix is incredibly far behind when it comes to strip design with adding dividers, gradients, and other design elements Robert mentioned. I was also able to get better loading speed.
I hope the decision to not focus on strips until 2021 is changed and at least some of these items are added to strips. This would allow people to add design elements that really make websites pop.
I don’t understand why it would take so long. What is Wix doing? Are there not enough staff? I’m afraid that 2021 is too far away. Wix will become outdated by then. It is one disappointment after another with Wix :((
I think Wix should ditch the Wix Editor tbh. Its technology is outdated. It is written on slow Javascript code that is the reason why sites are slow. The lack of responsiveness with Wix Editor is painful as people are using all different sized devices these days. There is no real professional tools in the Wix Editor (like accessing CSS Stylesheet or site code). I really wish Wix would allow us to access site code and CSS stylehseet. Then we don’t have to wait for Wix to add the features like Interactions and strips gradients and scroll effects. Just this one feature allows us to access a plethora of new design capabilities. Corvid doesn’t cut it for professionals. Editor X is the future of Wix. As you said, Wix needs to get there priorities right otherwise they are going to fall behind the competition. I am so sad, but I honestly think it’s time to migrate my business and my clients away from Wix.
As Idan mentioned, all Editor components will eventually have these advanced features. It’s a work in progress, as the Editor has a plethora of components.
Speed is a top priority for Wix and it’s something we’re actively working on. Currently, multiple components are being upgraded to reflect speed and performance updates.
Tim, I don’t know this to be true, but I suspect power users aren’t the target audience of Wix. I think they are selling boatloads of sites to DIY’ers. We just need to realize what our boundaries are with Wix and either work within them or switch to a different platform.
It honestly reminds me a bit of Apple. As a Mac Pro user you can just expect to be ignored by Apple since they’re more interested in selling a kajillion iphones than a handful of high end desktops.
Having said that…I’ve seen remarkable advances in the Wix platform over the years. Just the reality that there are power users who are building sites on the Wix platform was unheard of just a short time ago.
Also, don’t stop pushing Wix to develop features that you want.
True indeed! I would like to add some few words. We can only utilize the Wix Editor to it’s full potential if we actually care to look pass its certain limitation. That’s how i roll with Wix these days. One thing people should relaize and that is what i have relaized, is that maybe the classic editor is not targeting power users to play with everything design related. That’s when EditorX comes into play, it is building towards giving us more options and flexibility.
Better to do what you can and do it best, with what you have got for now.
@shannon64283@dee4charlotte Yep, i totally understand what your saying. As I create websites, I get better and better. I want to achieve things on my sites that some of the top designers out there achieve, but I am coming to the conclusion that Wix and Editor X just doesn’t cut it anymore. I guess it’s great for amateurs and intermediate users, like you said Shannon, but when you want to take your design to the next level, you are bound to Wix’s features. There is no room for thinking outside the box and developing coded designs with CSS etc. If I stick with Wix, I will always be making small business websites and earning a mediocre salary. You almost never see large business running on Wix because Wix’s business model is to keep you locked in, whereas other platforms allow you to visually design your website, but then access and export site code to your own servers. That opens the doors to so many more code abilites, not just Corvid.
@cloudsterteam I would agree with this four or so years ago, but ever since Corvid the rules and limitations changed. There are many sites the partners have created that are for large companies - and some are large medical chains. I’ve seen those sites over the past few months. Hopefully soon I will have a cool place for us to display our achievements and browse others’ work. =)
