These new universal menus are really restrictive and dissapointing - here's why

These new universal menus can’t be added to lightboxes.
These new universal dont allow for much customization. For exmaple you have to choose a restrictive ‘animation package’.
QUESTIONS

  • Can you make it so these new manus can be added to lightboxes??
  • Why cant we have control over how the menu slides out after hitting the hamburger rather than it being tied to the animation package?
  • This includes, why cant we choose the direction the hamburger menu slides out? Its only possible to have it slide out from the right.
  • What would solve a lot of problems are, when people choose ‘none’ for the animation package, then from there give them option of how the menu apears with the usual ‘animations and effects’ options that you can give to any element.

Once youve opened the menu theres a whole new set of problems. The menu items are tied to the ‘animation package’ as well, for exampe just give us custom control over the menu items and submenu items and how the animations occur.

Overall feelings, restrictive but convinient and simplified features may work for Wix editer users, but Wix Studio users like granular control and like it to be more complex. It’s the whole point. These animations are not good, they are tacky and gimicky.

This right here! Please @noahlovell …the menus became more restrictive. I’ve hardly gotten any animation packages to work except the one with a dot. hamburger menu sliding out only from the right doesn’t work for every design.

Glad im not the only one. It’s a real shame. Menus are the most crucial part of any website. And they are so limited with in detail customization. Being stuck with the ‘animation package’ is a reall shame.

Hey both!

Wanted to acknowledge that I’ve seen the topic and chatting to the team about this - will loop back around when I have a little more information to share.

In the meantime, do you have any examples of the types of animations you’re looking for? If I remember correctly, the old menus didn’t have animation options for the menu items, compared to the new menus which do.

We appreciate all the feedback - keep it coming

The old menus could be put into lightboxes. The lightboxes could be set to apear using ‘animations and effects’ which was extremly customisable. This was GREAT. But now we cant add these universal menus to lightboxes. Big Shame.

To respoind to your animations question, it seems we currently have to choose an ‘animation package’ such as underline on hover, dotpoint on hover, or the washing effect etc, yes these are handy to have as an option, but the problem is when the menu container opens and you have your actual website menu inside there, the text items in there as well as the subitems have this same effect of the package, which cant be turned off… it would be great to be able to turn the effect off on these text items, and just have customizable standard hover effects such as bold, change colour

@Pet_Food_Pantry - looping round with some answers to the questions asked

Are you able to share more about the need to add menus to lightboxes? Currently, this functionality is intentionally restricted because having a menu inside a lightbox is not accessibility-friendly. With the European Accessibility Act (EAA) coming into effect in June 2025, this could pose compliance risks, as site owners may be held liable for accessibility issues.

Understanding your specific use case would help us explore alternative solutions that align with accessibility best practices

The team agrees this is a great request and are looking into it - thanks for sharing :raising_hands:

You’re right - the current animated packages are phase 1, and the team plan to give more granular control on each element in phase 2.

Appreciate all the feedback - thanks for sharing it :flexed_biceps:

Looking forward to the phase 2 changes. Thanks
