Using Code With Existing Site

All,
A client of mine has just hired me to work on their site, but they had already started on some basic design and content elements. When I checked the tools panel to turn on developer tools, the option was missing – is there any way to use Code with an existing site? Or can it only be used for sites created by a developer account?

You must have a site where the owner is approved in the Beta program. The easiest way for you it to transfer the site to your developer account now and build the site and when WIX Code gets live you can tranfser the site to the clients account.
