Website migration

Hi everyone,

I’m currently managing a community website that was originally set up around 2017 using Astrid (5-minute setup). Unfortunately, I don’t have contact with the original creator, and the site is highly disorganized. Here are the main challenges I’m facing:

  • The website has around 20 pages and approximately 170 active posts.
  • When I try to change the theme, it completely messes up the site structure.
  • Shutting down the site temporarily isn’t an option right now, but I’m planning to work on it during the Christmas break to make major fixes.

I’ve been considering creating a new website on Wix and migrating the domain, but I’ve never done anything like this before, and I’m feeling pretty nervous about the process.

Main Questions:

  1. Should I stick with the current platform and clean it up, or would moving to a more user-friendly platform like Wix be better for the long term?
  2. If I decide to migrate to Wix, what’s the best way to handle the domain migration and ensure minimal downtime for users?
  3. Any tips or resources for organizing the content (20 pages and 170 posts) if I rebuild the site?

Hi.

  1. Yes, I would move to a new user friendly platform. Is going to prove much betting in the long term;
  2. Design the site on Wix and then when ready to go live with the new site, simply change a couple of the domain DNS records (A & CNAME) and the domain will point to the new hosting within a few hours (normally). Probably no need to move the domain.
  3. Too hard to comment on structure without knowing the site.
