I’m wondering if anyone can advise how to get Google to index a Wix website.
I created a simple portfolio site for a client using the Wix classic editor. The site was launched several months ago and does not currently have a dedicated domain name (ie it has the generic username.wixsite.com). Within a few days, Bing had found the site and it shows up fine in the Bing results. However, Google doesn’t appear to have found, crawled or indexed it.
As it hasn’t got a dedicated domain name, I’m unable to use any of the more advanced SEO tools, such as Google Search Console. However, I have one of my own websites, also on a generic wixsite URL and Google found that no problem, and it even ranks quite well for some search terms.
I’m not expecting the site to rank particularly well in search results, but I would like Google to at least know that it exists and would have expected the existing relationships between Wix and Google to have ensured that this would happen automatically.
Any advice gratefully received, and thank you in advance.
No, it’s just got some text supplied by the client (not AI generated) and some images of some examples of work. There is coincidentally a reference to AI in the text - would this have any impact?
Google is not indexing many website pages right now that it thinks lacks good quality content. One way to make it index it is by sharing the link across popular platforms like reddit, quora, and youtube that actually make people visit the link. Another method is to create the same site on Google Sites or blogger as they are more likely to index. There are some platforms like Indexification as well that helps you index the links on Google. Here is a free one - Google Index Tool - Bulk URLs, pages & website indexing
If your Wix website isn’t being indexed by Google, here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue and help Google discover and crawl your site:
Ensure Your Site is Visible to Search Engines:
Go to your Wix dashboard.
Navigate to Settings > SEO (Google) and find Site Visibility.
Make sure the option “Hide this site from search engines” is unchecked. This ensures that Google can crawl and index your site.
Click Submit. This helps Google discover and index all the pages on your site.
Although you don’t have a custom domain name, these steps can still help Google find and index your site, especially since Wix sites are generally recognized by Google for indexing.
Thank you so much for your help. I had tried Google Search Console previously, but was struggling to get the URL verified. I finally managed and, 24 hours later, the site has been indexed.
