Wix Forms App vs. Custom Form

Question:
Can anyone give me the primary functionality differences between using the new Wix Forms App versus creating a custom form from scratch, just for a fairly simple Contact form? Trying to decide which to dive deep into and don’t want to waste time on a dead end…

Product:
Wix Studio + Wix Forms

What are you trying to achieve:
We’re playing with the new Wix Forms app (WixFormsV2?!?) and trying to decide if it’s worth really trying to dig deep to overcome some of it’s limitations, mostly on layout & styling, or just create a custom form from scratch where we’d have much more control over elements.

Some of the main functionality we would like to have:

  • Form submissions are added to a collection for easy management
  • Form submissions are sent to Inbox
  • Email notifications can be sent to one or more recipients upon submission. Optimally, these would include the full form submission data so recipient could respond directly to user from email without having to go through Wix dashboard.
  • [Bonus - maybe not mandatory]: Form submitters are added to Contacts, using Name, Email & Phone fields

- And are any Wix Forms app fields or items open to Velo for targeting?
If we could target fields, we could maybe add custom classes to them so we could just address styling issues directly in CSS (e.g, add our ‘.defaultButton’ class to the submit button). But unsure these items can be targeted.

Custom form(USING CMS) will give you more freedom in terms of design and you can add the elements to the collection. You will have to set up some steps(like automation, and Velo) in order to send the notification. Wix Forms has these functions by default and is very easy to send notifications using automation.

I recommend going with the Forms as the main App if you have lots of contacts as it will make the work easy. You can also set up custom forms(like an email capture form) at some places.

OK, thanks for the response. Trying the Wix Forms app right now. I’m able to target some of the basic field elements (e.g, input, label, button) to style a bit better in CSS.

But I’m seeing something that would be much tougher to override – fields that display by default in 2 columns side-by-side (e.g, first name + last name, or email + phone) are not collapsing down to single column properly on mobile display.

  • Is there a setting somewhere I missed that would address this, or are the Wix Forms app forms not truly mobile responsive?

I just added a basic Contact form, and tried to go through all of the settings I could find. This would be a pretty major fail that would make them very cumbersome to use for mobile visitors.
