Wix Restaurants | Lists of recommendations #featurerequest #WixRestaurant

Hi all,
I’d like to recommend a few things regarding the Wix Restaurants app.
Starting with that wix restaurants is great with even greater potential, but it needs attention and lots of it if the plans are to be a competitive product.

Appearance :

  • It appears to be an add-on to the original wix menus, with a lot of limitations as to what can be edited. We have to work with workarounds (edit a font theme & save as theme), in order to edit the fonts in wix restaurants, while the menus allows to edit fonts.

  • The only login option is facebook?!? Please add google, twitter, and definitely integrate the members login. What’s the point of logging in to a restaurant website if you have to login again, so you can have a history of your orders, etc.

  • Branding: Please remove the wix branding from every screen when placing an order. You don’t really need a branding if the product can sell for itself.

  • Recommendation to find a way to incorporate the mobile restaurant app into the version of the website and not appear as a separate app. It throws people off. For example, because people don’t want to pay to much attention, when they click on online ordering and see the button “Our Online ordering works better in full screen” they thought it wasn’t working!!! They didn’t even bother to read the note! Or just skip the button and open the app right away. That’s an unnecessary step which confuses people!
    Menu Building Functionality :

  • Please add a delete option! Every time that we want to add an existing option to a different list, we have to go through everything we have created so far, including the mistakes! The search narrows down, but delete option is absolutely needed!

  • The menu builder needs major upgrade! It cannot handle multi size items that they have different pricing on added options based on size. For example, if a steak and cheese sub/grinder or whatever you wanna call it, has 2 or 3 sizes, and the restaurant wants to charge $0.50, for the small, $0.75 for the medium and $1.00 for the large size, we don’t have the option to do that. We can do some extreme workarounds to make it happen, yes. BUT the people that would try to place the order, most likely are not developers. We’re lucky enough if they can figure out that the member’s login on the site has nothing to do with the online ordering! So, the added options need options for additional prices based on size.

  • Added options also need other options such as light, extra, side, etc. with option for additional prices based on selection AND SIZE!

  • For example, next to each option it would be great if there was a dropdown to offer additional options! (See pic below)
(Note: this is a mockup image created by me and not copied from any other service. Disregard the “Onions” and the dropdown with the “No” option.)

So in this example above, each item could have the prices per size and option defined in the builder, and show the appropriate price here based on the selections.

PIZZA BUILDER !

  • Probably one of the most complicated builders ever. No wonder why most companies can’t get it right!

  • Half & Half topping option: Mandatory! There is no option to add half pepperoni, half mushroom pizza! Instead, we have to create the same list of toppings 3 times and define it as “Whole or Entire Pizza”, “1st Half” and “2nd Half”. Which is not ok, not because we have to make it 3 times, but because it makes the list of option waayy to long! And the customers, would be searching for a needle in a haystack to add a desired topping, that is if they figure out where on the pizza it would end up.

  • The following screen hopefully provides a clear view as to what a more convenient way of ordering a pizza would be.
And the checkboxes are not needed! Just the option for 1st half, whole, 2nd half and the dropdown for additional options such as light or extra, with a normal option as default.

  • If you have noticed, there is also a “Combo up” option next to add to cart. This could be used to combine one item with another and send both to the cart with updated price. Obviously, items that wouldn’t require additional a lot of additional options would be better.

  • An other option would be to add notes per item, option to add a name, option to add/save item to favorites (Including the selected options/modifiers), and an option to gain reward points if such option is enabled from the restaurant. See example on the following screen.

On the restaurant side and the actual menu builder, here are a few mockups that could hopefully provide some ideas for improvement.

Obviously, these mockups are for more features than just an online ordering app.
All these mockups and a whole-lot more, are from a POS project that never saw the light! These are my designs, and are not subjects to copyrights or or anything like that. I’m just placing them here in case you guys find them useful as ideas of a different perspective.
I really hope we’ll see great things from wix restaurants as we have seen with the rest of wix products!
Best of luck with everything, and definitely let me know if you have any questions!

Steve.

Great feedback Steve and something I touched on recently too, about nearly all of the same points.

In regards to the Online Ordering opening on a separate tab; do you know that the Product Managers actually told me they switched on the ability to have it open inside the website and they saw a 50% decrease in conversions, so they put it back to the old way.

I think this is complete and utter rubbish and in fact just an escape route because they couldn’t actually fix the issue.

The issue we have is, Wix Restaurants solution was acquired by Wix, it used to be a company called OpenRest, and the founders came to Wix and built the product into the Wix eco system, however, they are no longer working at Wix, meaning the product is basically kinda redundant (well, it seems that way) if Wix would comment then we would know but they haven’t bothered to give a comment on why this app hasn’t gone anywhere or been updated. Still waiting.

I agree with all of your points though, 100%!

Hey Robert
Thanks for your comment!

I did not know about any of what you mentioned. But I do know this:
The restaurant ordering market, is a very competitive one and if we are to sell a product, that product must at the very least offer what competitor products offer, if not more.
I’m a POS reseller so I actually do know the needs of that specific market because I deal with them on a daily basis.
Imagine that few POS systems don’t make the cut due to lack of features when they’re presented as considerable options, and they’re essential compared to online ordering!
Hopefully, this eventually will get to Wix team and we’ll get some feedback.

Please take fast action on these three issues and specially Wix branding and Facebook login.

The only login option is facebook?!? Please add google, twitter, and definitely integrate the members login. What’s the point of logging in to a restaurant website if you have to login again, so you can have a history of your orders, etc.

Branding: Please remove the wix branding from every screen when placing an order. You don’t really need a branding if the product can sell for itself.

Recommendation to find a way to incorporate the mobile restaurant app into the version of the website and not appear as a separate app. It throws people off. The button to open fullscreen is a killer and 1000% kills conversions, i don’t care what they say.

Again, i agree wholeheartedly on all of these points. Especially the branding and also the point regarding the members login.

@stefanos - i got a response from the Product Manager at Wix Restaurants (Finally).

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your feedback. We are aware that Online Ordering hasn’t seen major updates in a while, so we are focusing on it in the immediate future.

We started several integrations with other Wix products which should resolve most the issues you listed, including removing Wix branding and integration with Members.

We also added the ability to generate coupons, and will have font customization soon, both of which were highly requested features.

Further ahead, we aim to rewrite it in such a way so it won’t open in a different domain on mobile, and will be faster to boot.

Far from being unmaintained, we have big plans for it that will be rolling out over the next few months.

Hope this addresses your concerns!

- Guy

Nice! Hey, at least now we have something to look forward to!

A lot of great information here guys.

Thank you Steven,
Hopefully, it can provide the team with few ideas for improvements.

I had a discussion with a client yesterday, in which he asked if the items could be printed separately (each item to the make-line it belongs). That is in addition to the receipt.
I’ve already had this included in the designs above (the last 2 or 3), but since it came up with my customer, I thought I should mention it.

To explain this a little better:
An order would be printed by default as a receipt (if that option is selected), which will include all items.
In addition to that, each item could have an option for kitchen printing configuration when being initially setup, so it can be sent to a dedicated printer in the kitchen.
For example, an order with a pizza, a salad, and an order of fries, could have each item print on 3 different stations (printers), but they will all belong to the same order!

For that to happen we should have the option to create printers during menu setup, and assign each item to desired printers. Then, we could link the printers we created to the actual printers used in a restaurant, using the operating system settings.

If that can happen, I believe it would be a great feature and something that can be used against the competition.

Thank you for explaining this in detail! This definitely gives a clear understanding of the feature.
