429 issue sharing to Facebook not resolved

For several days now when trying to share posts on Facebook my site gets a 429 Error and the link does not properly post. This is a real problem as there is no preview image or article title. The Facebook sharing debugger is no longer working to resolve this issue which it was at first. On July 12 Wix said this issue was resolved posting: To resolve the 429 error encountered when sharing posts to Facebook, please follow these steps:

  1. Re-publish Your Site in the Editor
  2. Use the Facebook Debugger on the Affected Posts to Scrape URL

But this issue is not resolved and that does not work. I have tried “re-publishing” the site and using the debugger. Has anyone else encountered this and is there an actual solution as Facebook is hugely important to our site.

We’re experiencing the same issue, with Facebook reporting a 429 error (too many requests) when I scrape the URL in the debugger.

I’m having the same issue. I tried scraping it on Facebook and still no luck.

I contacted support about it last night and they emailed and said to do what I posted above. Re-publish the site and use the debugger. But it still does not work! It is not a solution. Anyway, I emailed back saying this and I am still waiting for a response. Obviously I will let everyone know if I get a response that actually works.

Update: I heard back from support and they are acknowledging that the work around does not work and have reopened this as a “known issue”. Again, once I hear back with any solution or know that they have solved it I will share that here.

Same issue for us, thank you for contacting support. This is frustrating for sure.

I will say that posting to LinkedIn worked just fine using the same link attempted to Facebook. Someone (Facebook or Wix) made a change and now they gotta get back on the same page.

The problem does seem to be exclusively with sharing to Facebook.

This is not an acceptable work around and this problem is not fixed but I am finding that if you run the link through the Facebook debugger multiple times sometimes needing to be hours apart the link will, eventually debug.

The problem is that after a while of multiple attempts Facebook will lock you out from using the debugger for a few hours, but the three most recent posts I did did eventually debug. One did only after 24 hours.

This is clearly not an acceptable fix but it does seem to eventually work for now so thought I should pass that along. Of course it may stop working and it is a waste of one’s time so really hoping support figures out what is wrong soon.

The workaround does not work. This has been going on far too long. To those of you sharing to Facebook, the only way I have found to get it to look a little more professional is to post a photo you used in your blog and post the link with the post text… that way the URL shows but there is not a link preview.

As I mentioned a little further up, the team is working with Facebook to resolve the issue. In the meantime, I’ve asked the team if there is any news :slight_smile:

Hello. I just saw that the issue was resolved by the opened ticket. But still I don’t see any change in sending links. All links on our website are returning 429 error code (I confirm it’s happening only on Facebook) and in addition in the Facebook debugging tool, the scraping tool shows the following issue on the og:image: “Provided og:image URL, https://example.jpeg could not be processed as an image because it has an invalid content type.” where I can confirm also that the images have the correct content-type. (In order to see this issue I have to hit status code 200 from 1 out of ~20 tries).

Could anyone confirm that if the issue was acually resolved?
