I see that currently it is not possible to add a MERCHANT_COMMENT type activity to an order using code.
I would really like to be able to do this.
How can I make a feature request for this?

Unfortunately, this extension capability does not help me. I need to be able to add a MERCHANT_COMMENT to an ORDER - not make a custom extension to products in the catalog. Thanks, Amanda for providing the link to submitting a feature request. I have submitted my request.
