I think I figured it out… this only happens when editing a NEW template that hasn’t been SAVED. Say someone selects a template from the Wix Template database and immediately begins uploading media from an old site to the new template before pressing the “Save” site button, the media folder says it’s uploaded, but it’s not, because you can’t upload media to a site that technically does not exist yet or rather hasn’t been saved.
Now that I know this - big relief! No biggie for me. But I am wondering, intuitively, for newer Wix users opening up templates to edit, this isn’t entirely intuitive… is it possible when importing media from a site to a new template that there is a message warning or reminding the user to Save the site before importing media?
This upgrade is a huge help managing client sites. But for those clients that have been on Wix a long time, is there a way to access the images/docs/videos that they have on THEIR site?
When I take on a client I normally copy their site to my account or (rarely) add myself as a contributor and do the work from my account. In either case if I want access to the images/docs/videos, etc in the clients account I have to log out of my account and log into theirs. I would like to be able to access the media that they have in THEIR account but from my account. Does this help explain better? If not, please feel free to contact me directly.
@david-rosenblatt Actually the new media manager will solve this problem! As it’s site based, all site contributor access the same media manager (i.e to all the files in it). When your customers will have the new media manager as well (soon), they can just add you as a contributor to the site and you can keep working from you account as you can.
@yaaraa This is GREAT!! But today, when I go to the image gallery for a site on which I am a contributor, I see only the old media manager. Am I doing something wrong?
I am LOVING the new media manager! Thank you! One question, just to be clear: all files I create in the media manager for a website in my account will automatically move when I transfer that site to a client?
And another thing! We absolutely need an ALL FILES as well as a SITE FILES. Unless I am missing something? I can;t seem to access all my files when I am in a specific client site. Thanks!

Indeed with the new media manager once you will transfer a site, the media will be transferred along with it! (note that the user that the site is transferred to should be exposed to the new media manager as well, so it will fully supported once it will be fully rolled out).
Hello. I am at a client’s office and she is a contributor to the site we are working on. I see that she can see all my images not just the one related to her site. (She sees the new media manager) Can we change this? Surely she shouldn’t see all other clients image files.
Hi Lorraine! Indeed the new media manager is site based, therefore all site contributors have access to the same media manager and can work together easily.
In existing sites you can delete the files and folders which you don’t need in this site from the media manager, it won’t affect other sites.
In new sites you won’t have any issue as you will start from scratch.
@yaaraa So to clarify if she is in her site as a contributor, and sees other files that don’t belong to he r she can delete them? and it won’t delete them from my profile (its my profile I guess she is seeing because she is seeing all my client’s sites…)
