As powerful as Editor X is, the most important feature is really not working well. Breakpoints!
The editor simply does not show the breakpoints accurately. I am not sure if this is just me but the tablet and mobile breakpoints are impossible to use to understand how the design looks on devices. I test on iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad Air2 and iPhone x. Neither the editor nor the preview mode default breakpoints show what I see on my tablet and or my iPhone (please see screenshots). I refer to a desktop breakpoint to see how the site appears on my iPad but I am still not certain about the exact px size of the breakpoint in the editor or the preview mode I should be looking at. The
iPhone X editor view is always off. Only when I switch to the preview mode and select the default iPhone X (375px) I get somewhat close to the view that I see on my actual phone but not accurate. And when I go back to editing the site with the same 375px for iPhone X the breakpoint view changes back to where things look very different again. My case is related to apple devices and I have no idea how off the Android and Pixel breakpoints might be. I feel like I am creating websites like I am taking a shot in the dark. It can be very frustrating for clients to constantly find issues on different devices while it makes us designers look like we don’t know what we are doing. The most important aspect of using a responsive editor is the ability to see what the site looks like on every breakpoint. I hope the Editor X team makes this a priority so we are not running in circles and trying to get an accurate reference of a website’s view.
If you have a work around/solution for this or if I am missing something I’d greatly appreciate your input.
