Question:
Is there a way to enforce a delay when a user scrolls? So that a particular cell or section is held on the screen for a period of scrolling, WITHOUT it being a sticky section?
Product:
Wix Studio
What are you trying to achieve:
I am building a site with a focus on mindfulness. I have a section with a forest image set as its background and it has a parallax effect on it. I would like to enforce a very brief pause on this section as the user is scrolling down the home page. Obviously not to become annoying or to make them think there is something wrong with the site, but there is also text that says ‘pause a while’ so I think it would work… but how do I do that? I cannot make the section sticky because I don’t want the section below it to overlap when the user does continue to scroll. Rather I’m looking for a ‘delay’ in their scrollability.
What have you already tried:
Various efforts with setting my background image in the section background, and background image in a central cell, and areas of space (cells) and calculations for sizing, but I’m not getting the result I’m after.

Hi, jackie23632 !!
This official Wix tutorial video may be helpful.
Hey Jackie,
Sticky scroll is indeed the best approach to use here. I understand that you do not want your section to be overlapped by the one below it. So what you can do here is stretch the height of the section to maybe 200% (you can play around and set the height to be as long as you want the pause to be…) and once this is done, drag in a container, set its width to 100% and height to maybe half the section height so that would be like 50% or even 75%. Then dock this container to the top of the section and then set this container to sticky and make sure the parent section does not have any scroll effect.
And there you have it - a pause in the scroll (:
This is great - thanks so much. My only query is that this would lose the parallax effect that I currently have on the section while its background is the image. Is there a way to keep the parallax going but still have it stuck? So the image moves in a parallax way as the user scrolls but the container remains static as you mentioned? I think parallax is only available for sections, correct?
Yes, you can very much keep the parallax going in the background while the container and the text remains sticky. Here’s an example I created to show you how it’ll appear:
The new Studio editor does have a feature called Scroll Interactions that are much more customisable, in the sense you can set specific parallax speeds for each element, such as start points, end points and much more.
An example of that would be this site that I created: https://preztech.wixstudio.io/space-elevator where you can see parallax scroll in action once you’re above the 15,000m mark. Along with parallax scroll, it also features a lot of other custom scroll interactions that makes the site more immersive and playful.
