Hello! I cannot find any good info/tutorials on how to add a CAPTCHA to a simple wix contact form. Has anyone been able to figure this out? It used to be pretty simple in the original wix platform.
So apparently the forms on Wix Studio come with spam detection out of the box. If a potential bot is detected, Captcha is prompted.
There was a post about this in the Wix Partners Facebook group where @noahlovell confirmed this. Hope that helps!
oh interesting - thank you for letting me know!
I still get spam though. So it’s best to get the captcha.
This does not work well enough. 20% from an order form are bots and spam. I’m considering moving away from wix when it comes to serious ticketing and form data. Having so little control over basic security is starting to really hinder my business.
We had a different problem with the Wix embedded form CAPTCHA. For many of our non-US users the CAPTCHA challenge would get stuck in an endless loop that prevented them from logging in, signing up to our site or submitting any form. We tried turning the feature off but it still kept popping up.
Wix insisted it was a Google issue, but without noting that CAPTCHA was hard-coded into their forms.
We eventually had to remove all Wix forms from our site and code our forms from scratch. No spam or bot protection, but at least our users can sign in now or fill in a contact us form.
I think Wix could improve forms by expanding the different types and levels of security features (including ‘none’) to mix and match.
Since this topic was originally created, additional settings have been added to Wix Forms that allow you to control the level of spam filtering.
There’s also the option to mark submissions as spam, which in turn helps the system to better detect spam in the future.
Wix Forms uses reCAPTCHA 3, which operates mostly in the background. If it detects a bot, they’ll be presented with the reCAPTCHA challenge that you’re traditionally used to (the “I’m not a robot”).
If you choose to go the route of building your own forms, you have the option of using the reCAPTCHA field from the inputs area of the add panel
It’s also worth noting that despite all this, there are still people who will manually visit websites and submit spam form submissions.
