I have created a site in the free version of the site as a staging environment and I now want to move the entire site to production (paid version). Is this possible or do I need to copy it over section by section?

if I can understand you correct, and you want to move free site to paid version, you only need to Purchase premium plan for this: https://support.wix.com/en/article/choosing-an-editor-x-premium-plan
in case you want to have two versions of the site in different accounts one with premium and one without, you can copy the site and transfer one of the versions to another account:
