Create an element who is fixed when scrolling

Hey,
I am creating a blog page with the categories on the left side. I would like the categories to start at a point x on the page. Once the reader scroll down the category box would still show on the page. Has anyone done it already?

Can you use this.

Unfortunately not and all the coding I tried didn’t work. It didn’t recognized it. Do you know what is the JS code I could use?
