I know a gallery can show video, and I know datasets can list videos as files or links, but is there any way to force the gallery to source the media from the dataset’s video file or link?

You will need to use the Wix Pro Gallery. Read more about videoItem here:
I’ve actually heard from others that a normal gallery has more options. In either case I am still at a loss as to where this “item” code goes, is it in the page code? In the code for the individual posts? Sorry if my question is too novice, maybe I need a more basic tutorial or to hire someone.
I’m also looking for this but couldn’t find it till the moment. The idea in my case is to be able to show videos (already uploaded to a dataset) in a Pro Gallery.
When I’m connecting the pro gallery to the dataset I can only link the “image source” to an image field. Any ideas anyone?

I am hoping for the same feature! Needing a gallery to display videos from a dataset (bonus if it can display BOTH images and videos from the same dataset)
@Kysa: Exactly, I can not understand why that is not working. You can add a video link under manage media (gallery) but you have to upload all images and for a dataset you can add image links but you have to upload videos. I need a gallery which is able to read image links and video links from a dataset / from external sources.

I was able to add videos into Video Player from a Youtube URL added into our database, I am able to see it in the preview section but once I click publish it disappears.
Any solution to this?

yeah we need it, it has no solution to code it with velo as well, the value for pro gallery has limitations

- You can only get the items of a Pro Gallery using the items property if you set its items using the items property or connect the gallery to a dataset first. If you set the gallery’s items in the Editor, you are not be able to retrieve them with the items property. This limitation does not apply to standard galleries.
