Handling Client Credit Card Info

Hello - I work with a number of clients and thus far have not found a seamless way to set up their website from scratch and transfer it without first getting their credit card info to upgrade to a premium plan (so I can set up their email account, etc). Curious if there is a way to handle this so I never have access to their sensitive personal information.

PS - I have tried having the client go in and set up an account first, but that is once we know what plan and URL they want to use. Often, I begin work before that stage as I am doing business consulting as well as website design. Thanks for any suggestions - Nicole

Hey Nicole! Good questions - and actually this is a common question. Most experts either buy the premium and charge the client - Then Transfer the site over - OR walk the client through the upgrade AFTER the transfer.

The experts requested that Wix create a way for experts to “request” site upgrades to the client so they can input their CC details and such without passing that information to the expert. :slight_smile:

Hope this helps!

Yes - if Wix is listening, it would be phenomenal to have a request site upgrade feature! Glad I’m not the only one going through it. One of the reasons waiting is a challenge is that I’d like to secure the domain name once we’ve come up with just so they don’t change their mind and so in the unlikely event it doesn’t get bought by someone else. Will keep going through the mud on this one. Thanks for the quick response, Brett - Nicole

It is best to create the client’s website on my WIX account, pay for it using their financial info then transfer to them? Or create their WIX account for them and then transfer the website and then put their financial info on their autonomous account?

There are many ways to do this. I think whatever fits bets for your pricing model is ideal. If you charge monthly - you may want to keep it in your account. If you build sites and then never touch them again, it may make sense to transfer. It really depends on your style. :slight_smile:

@brett thanks! makes sense.
