Hi,
I am actively looking for solutions to improve the loading speed of wix sites
Well aware of optimization techniques, I find that for some time Wix sites are very long to load …
I discovered a few months ago the site of Wix: Wix Turbo which boasts the new technology of speed in partnership with Marvel;), but I find unfortunately that the results are disappointing …
Hi, I use the following on all websites now to decrease site loading times… it doesn’t take much time (aside from the image compression part).
Double image compression. What do I mean? I use the most sophisticated image compressor in the world… Facebook . I upload all site photos to a private photo album, then download them again. Then I run them through www.compressor.io in most instances this results in a file size decrease of 70-90%, with almost zero noticeable difference in picture quality, then and only then do I upload them to Wix.
Remove page transitions. Available in the ‘manage pages’ section of the website. You won’t notice the difference.
I cache pretty much everything. I set cache almost all of my pages, aside from category and product pages on my store and I set the interval to every hour. I cache all pages aside from product pages (not really recommended, but for my purposes it works).
Remove image sharpening. You won’t notice any difference, unless you are selling art prints, or you are a photographer.
I keep animations to the bare minimum. I usually stick with simple parallax text fades, nothing else. If it is designed well, this is usually enough.
Limit myself to 3 fonts maximum. This is self explanatory, (if you can reduce it to two, even better).
For mobile I keep the design very skeletal. For the mobile version of my site, I only keep the essential design elements and products. As Google is pushing mobile site loading more and more (you will note on the Google page speed test, the mobile score of your site appears first, not the desktop). If it won’t convert, or make a site user click through to another page - I hide it.
Turn off auto-loading for videos. I turn off all auto-loading videos so the user must click to play them.
Google Maps. I also don’t use this on my homepage, I use a (compressed ) screenshot of the map with my location and I use it as a link to our contact page where the Google map app is displayed in full.
Individually, these won’t make much difference… but cumulatively you should notice a big decrease in your loading times.
Honestly? My max score (mobile) was 15-20, and desktop was 55.
However… I ran a few of my competitors through the Google speed test and almost all of them, scored lower than me. I also used https://builtwith.com to see which platform my competitors were using, and the site performed better than most Wordpress (WooCommerce) and Shopify competitors… but not all.
This will give you a more reflective benchmark.
So I think the Google speed test is quite ‘harsh’ for 2019, perhaps to put pressure on platforms like Wix or Shopify to speed up their performance or maybe… it is geared towards the future of internet speed (e.g. when 5G is implemented). I don’t know. I had a heart attack when I first saw I got a score of 10 (really poor) on one of our main sites.
Also, I really, really hope that accelerated mobile pages AMP will be implemented soon on Wix (I think this is already working for blogs?), which is a technology that is available on Wordpress and Shopify… it used to be that content was king for SEO, but it seems more and more that speed is king.
To brighten your mood… I have included a screenshot of the speed test of www.Forbes.com … their score is only 26 for mobile , and they have some of the best in the business working on their site.
Actually I have just done the test via another solution: https://tools.pingdom.com/ and the result of wix sites is between 75 and 85 out of 100 points …
On the other hand, I feel a real refrain of loading in front of other platforms, because I have the feeling that a lot of code wix is charged at the beginning of the kind:
static wix
parastorage
ding.wix
frog.wix
etc …
Well, I just hope it’s going better and better with time!
When are servers in each country users?
FYI: there is one site who is in the green : Google
thanks for this… i have been having the same problem but worse… ive been getting super low numbers like 7 for mobile… so you guys are saying thats not bad… maybe you guys are right about them not being accurate
