Ah yes indeed, you can also use google cloud or AWS for database management but it would be easier to use WIX databases since it offers the option. But if it doesn’t change, I’ll go to google cloud…
I was tried using the AWS connector instructions that Wix offered, and it was a nightmare to follow. I could not get the connection status to go green (Issue integrating AWS using Wix Instructions).
Have you successfully connected AWS, Google Cloud, Firebase, or another external database to a Wix site recently?
Any advice?
I’ve connected to FireBase (firestore) but not via the external database adapter/connector.
Be careful, because if WIX decides to change its pricing plans again tomorrow, it could wreak havoc on your project if your databases are linked to AWS and it disconnects them because you’ll have to have this or that subscription now for external databases…
Honestly, we can no longer trust WIX’s stability or their pricing plans. What’s more, even with a connection to an external database, the WIX database servers or the WixData API are very often out of service, which poses problems for data management. At best, try to dodge the CMS and everything it includes! Because even with an external database, queries go through the WixData api, which regularly returns unknown errors…
Hey @Lucas_dev and everyone else here!
We just shared an update about this in the Studio Discord.
We’ve heard all your feedback, and I want to share with you that we are looking into reducing the price of our highest tier plan, as well as removing some plan-based Velo limits.
As part of our ongoing efforts, in the next few days, we will trial changes in the pricing plan to accommodate the feedback we received.
We are also aiming to provide a more tailored solution to your needs, once the teams will review the impact of this trial, we’ll communicate any changes transparently to all Partners and users.
Read all the details here - Discord
Soooooooo since external database queries go through the WixData api, we’re still limited by the Wix read/write data limits per paid plan then, right?
Yoooooooooooooo, so then the only reason to use an external database with wix is storage?
So it’s looking like there’s really no way to use external databases to dodge these new CMS limitations?
I’m legit confused now, so any thoughts/advice from y’all with more external database experience would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
I do not have access to the specific channel in Discord, how can I get access to it?
The link seems broken, try this one. If not the details are in the announcements channel which is what we’re trying to link to.
Hello everyone, I’ve updated this topic, which is still very topical, and I’d like to have your opinion on the situation in the topic below!
It makes me smile to see topics about the problem of reducing limits for CMS by 1000 times.
For a whole year, Wix has been saying, “Thank you for your opinion, it’s very important to us.” But in fact, they ignored all the developers, received a record number of refunds according to plans, and a natural decrease in the value of shares.
“Good job Wix!”
It’s so true, WIX abuses its position, for me this limitation is ridiculous and I’ll continue to put it forward, as long as they don’t change their method, I’ll always be behind them. And I hope other developers will follow me!
Hi all,
CMS quotas will force me to close one of my wix sites related to art and culture. I have setup in 3 years a platform for artists to promote their creations and since it’s organized by cities (7000 records only for this dataset ±) I’m pratically out.
I’ll close it as soon as my current plan will need to be renewed.
Of course I’ll create a new home page informing all artists that this decision is due to WIX changes in its payment policy.
Beside this, today I received an email where Wix will change the marketing rules and ask to upgrade (pay) to continue to share posts as we do today: another cut in functionalities and payment request
I’ll probably close all my Wix sites after years of use.
Never seen in years such a bad policy with customers.
It’s clear that WIX cannot be trusted as investiment as everything can change from one moment to another.
For a company it’s the worst scenario.
I’m scouting other platforms / solutions to change WIX.
Indeed, I’m in the same situation; unfortunately, WIX doesn’t listen to our requests. Beyond having poor management policies for their plans, they ignore problems, thinking that the issue will disappear overnight! But they haven’t understood that we won’t stop until there’s a solution!
Anyway, I’ve stopped developing sites on WIX; now I develop in pure code, specifically using REACT and Node.js. However, there are solutions like WordPress, which is admittedly a bit less intuitive, but it does the job very well.
On my end, I continue to maintain this topic to keep it visible to everyone!
Anything you talk here and you will talk under that topic won’t make any difference. None of Wix competitiors using that old database limiting, so Wix won’t use that limit style too.
You can use external db solutions. (I don’t mean external db connections with wixdata I mean directly something else with it’s own native solutions).
And I think this thread will be locked in the close future.
It’s not a big deal, even if the discussion is closed here, it will be open on other forums, and it won’t stop. I find it rewarding to help developers and especially to point out WIX’s errors.
Everyone who didn’t like this change (including me) reacted and explain why they don’t want it and even some limits are removed and Wix made some changes to new limits including data platform and other developer tools.
But it’s been months (a year almost) and there is no reason to keep talking about these things anymore. It won’t change and it won’t help to anybody.
This is becoming more like trashtalk.
I understand that there is no solution… I’m checking for wordpress + elementor. I believe that since 2016 (when I chose WIX) now things are different.
Anyone has experience in WP + Elementor + Pods?
Thanks
I have used elementor and WP together but I wasn’t very familiar with them when I ws using them. And that was a terrible experince tbh.
WP is not bad, no one can say WP is bad but it’s not best choice for everything and we shouldn’t compare Wix to WP because Wix is a platform and WP is an open-source software so there is a big difference even if the indusrty same.
Depends on what you want to build you can re-search on the forums. Don’t make researches over YouTube because you will see so many affiliated videos which are ads…
This is not the definition of trash to talk. Some people have lost a lot of money, and I’ve been listening to developers complain and suffer about these measures for 1 year now, looking for solutions. I was there and I’ll be there to defend my convictions, and for me and for many other developers, WIX made a mistake. It’s taken some companies years to reverse their decision, because it’s costly in terms of development and I know that, but these issues won’t be forgotten as long as developers are losing money and time.
Wix isn’t a political party it’s a business/brand. And businesses make changes that makes their customers happy or not.
I find that database limit change too stupid too, but what I say is we talked about it, they made some changes and removed some limits and kept some limits. And they won’t change anything else anymore (about that data platform limits).
If you are searching for a solution here they are:
- Firestore by Firebase Google NoSQL
- MySQL by Google Cloud
- PostgreSQL by Google Cloud
- PostgreSQL on EC2
- PostgreSQL by Planetscale
- SQL DB by Railway.app
- SQL DB by Supabase
- DynamoDB by AWS NoSQL
- MongoDB NoSQL
- Redis NoSQL (K/V Store)
- SurrealDB
- Cassandra NoSQL
and more…
There are tons of options when picking db and it all depends on your project but most of the time you need an relational one and wix-data is NoSQL.
If you don’t build something complex then just use MongoDB or Firestore which is also NoSQL, it’s better yo use MongoDB because it’s more similar to wix-data since wix-data is built top of MongoDB.
There are solutions but solution is not keep talking about this topic because it’ll only waste your time.
