If I add a new image to a section & then replace it with a stock Editor X illustration, it sets the dimensions correctly and displays the image without any cropping.
But if I add an image and connect it to a collection to serve the image, the image served from the collection is cropped.
The ONLY way I’ve found to set the collection image being served to display completely correctly / uncropped is to get the % width & px height values from the non-collection version of the image, enter these into the collection version of the image, and then set the collection image to ‘scale proportionally’.
Obviously this is a really time-consuming workaround if you’re serving a lot of images from a collection to various parts of your site.
The screenshot shows a non-collection image on the left which is created automatically correctly proportioned & uncropped, whilst the image on the right is served from a collection containing the image, and this is automatically given different / wrong proportions, resulting in cropping.
So can anyone please explain why collections containing images are serving those images wrongly proportioned &
cropped? Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?
One small update: I’ve found if I just set the equivalent stand-alone image to the correct dimensions using ‘reset image’ then make the connection to the collection image, the collection image is pulled in and displays correctly / uncropped. From there it’s easy to reset it’s % width to resize.
I still can’t find a way to successfully get the collection image to scale to 100% of it’s containing element height without cropping though.
My point is that the image reset only works with images not served from a collection - the original dimensions of the image have to be found from a standalone image and the collection image’s dimensions then manually set to these: the reset image function doesn’t work for collection images, where you might expect it to, since it’s still a selection available from the image settings, regardless of where the image comes from.
The overall point is that collection-served images have ALL (and correct me if I’m wrong), it seems, to either have their dimensions set by manually inputting standalone image dimensions, or the dynamic image placeholder needs to be set to the correct dimensions first by choosing the image manually from somewhere, when it’s then connected to it’s corresponding collection identical image, and this isn’t great for workflow.
Strange since I wasn’t able to replicate that. If you can share the reset not working, I’ll try to reach out to the relevant team but if you can share a video @keith93516 of what you’re working on, it would help.
