My Wix Studio is extremely slow and laggy, despite powerful hardware

Hi everybody,

I am currently working on my new Website in Wix Studio. However working in the Studio environment is extremely slow and laggy and it gets worse the longer I work on the website. Every klick takes seconds to be processed, adding new content is even worse.

I am working on a Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra with a Intel Core i9-13900H, 32 GB RAM and the Geforce RTX 4070. So the hardware shouldn’t be an issue. This is confirmed by the task manager. I use 20% of the processor and 45% of my RAM while workin in the editor.

I tried switching browsers as well, which did’t help. When I watch Wix tutorials I see how fluent people work and it’s really frustrating for me to work that why.

Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be?

I appreciate any help.

Kind regards, Nico

Hi @Nicolas_Spanier

Working in Wix Studio can sometimes feel slow, especially as the environment becomes laggy with more content. Several factors might be contributing to the lag, and here are some solutions to help improve performance:

  • Optimize Custom Code: Disable or temporarily remove custom code to see if performance improves. If custom code is the issue, consider optimizing it to enhance speed and efficiency.

  • Optimize Images: Use optimized images and consider converting them to next-gen formats like WebP, which are smaller and load faster.

  • Clear Wix Studio Cache: Wix Studio caches elements to speed up your workflow, but sometimes the cache can grow too large or become corrupted. Go to Settings > Advanced and clear your Wix Studio cache.

After applying these changes, test your site again using Google PageSpeed Insights to check for performance improvements and get actionable suggestions.

If you don’t want to spend too much time optimizing your site manually, you can try our Website Speedy app for Wix, which offers a 14-day free trial. It automatically handles the optimizations for you. You can install it here: Website Speedy - load faster | Wix App Market | Wix.com

Hi,

  • Custom Code shouldn’t be the issue, I only have custom code for 2 buttons, that’s it.
  • Optimize Images. It doesn’t matter if I am on a page with photos or not. And anyway, I don’t see how those would be influencing the speed of the Wix Studio Interface itself. If I load the actual website everything is fine.
  • I don’t see any advanced setting in Wix Studio itself where I can clear the cache. I cleared the browsers Cache and nothing changed.

As I said, its not the website which is slow. Everything is fine when I load the actual webiste. It’s the Studio Editor itself which is horrendously slow. Even klicking through the Editor Menu is just laggy.

Are there any other suggestions? I just don’t understand why the performance is so bad for me.

Kind regards, Nico

They mean Wix Studio editor.

Many people have reported lag, delays and problems publishing.

Try updating your browser. Google Chrome works best.

The Wix Studio EDITOR is useless. Too slow for using it professionally. The developers at Wix must be aware of this. They should make it as smooth as Figma.

The Wix Studio editor needs serious improvements. It has many bugs, is quite slow, and can be very challenging to use. The promotional videos portray the Wix Studio Editor as working flawlessly, which creates a misleading impression. Ignoring these issues is tantamount to deceiving your users because withholding information is a form of deception. You need to develop a platform as fast and efficient as Framer; otherwise, users will gradually drift away from Wix Studio. Therefore, addressing performance issues should be prioritized over all other updates related to Wix Studio.

Hi,

It focuses on optimizing the visual performance of your site by addressing factors that impact how it loads and functions for the end-user.

Again, they were talking about the Wix editor being slow NOT their website.

I have this issue as well. Are there any plans for improvement on this/fixes?

Yes, I have to fundamentally agree here - it is absurd how laggy / slow the editor itself works (the page works fine)… you are “clicking in the dark” more often than not and hope that you didn’t make weird changes while trying to select an item to work on…

@Bademeister212 “clicking in the dark and hoping that you didn’t make weird changes” describes this pretty well. Sometimes I just want to throw my laptop against the wall.

What I don’t understand is the fact that it seems to work pretty well for some people. If I watch tutorials (not from Wix themselves) everything seems to be snappy and smooth.

I just upgraded to Wix Studio from the editor in order to make a more professional website. But working like this is not really an option long term. Especially the fact, that the people from Wix are not really reacting to this issue isn’t really reassuring.

What a pity, I don’t like the idea of rebuilding everything again on a different platfrom.

Same issue here, it’s rendering the service almost unusable with how slow it is and how frequently I have to refresh. Wix NEEDS to do something about this, it’s totally inexcusable.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are in the middle of an important project and were considering moving to this platform. Now I know it’s not an option for our business. Thanks.

If you ask me - with almost 20 years experience in VC and startups - the company behind WIX looks like it is going down the drain… money is tight in 2023 / still begining of 2024, high valuation from a couple years ago are not anymore sustained… I think they are running out of cash and soon will stop supporting this product altogether.

100%… not an option for anything “professional”. My wife uses WIX (not Studio) for her book-website. That maybe works. But for anything that is “a company” or resembles a professional operation, no way. Unfortunately, because the general “idea” is great… but it just doesn’t work.

It’s a real pain. What helped me though was changing browsers from Safari to Chrome. I hope Wix does something to optimize both the editor and live webpages.

I am just about ready to cry today. You can’t do anything fast in here - waiting 2 seconds for every change to click in, then having to restart every 10 minutes when what’s on the screen just won’t stabilize anymore. I’ve put so much work into this site but I’m considering moving back over to Wordpress, which I often hate too but at least you can be sure of what you’re touching/changing.

I just posted a very harsh thread about this on the forum again. It’s a genuinely infuriating situation.

In my opinion, everyone needs to create a thread about this on the forum.
