I’m looking to set up a page for news for one of my clients but I don’t want to use the blog feature, is there an easy workaround for creating content?
Wix Editor
I’m looking to create a page for news for one of the clients I work with to share news from them and their partners. I have previously used the blog feature and I understand the capabilities of it fairly well. The issue is when I’m trying to create a professional and clean-looking news page that I can produce articles for, I don’t particularly want all the added stuff that comes with the blog feature such as comments, likes, and log-in/sign-up.
Are there any other features out there that allow me to create content as effectively as the blog feature does but don’t come with all the add-ons that the blog brings? More like a standard news website, I suppose.
You could also use the dashboard blog feature to create the blogs, but you can create your own custom blog page connected by CMS to the blog database. This way you can pull through just the info you want and have more design control. The main blog area would be a rich content container. Should benefit from blog SEO this way also.
It’s great that you’re aiming for a professional, clean news page! If you’re using the Wix Editor and want to avoid the additional features that come with the blog functionality (like comments, likes, or sign-ups), here are a few effective and easy workarounds:
Custom Dynamic Pages
Wix offers a Dynamic Pages feature, which is a fantastic option for creating a news-like structure without the blog extras. With dynamic pages, you can:
Design a consistent layout for all news articles.
Use a database to store your news articles and details (like title, date, content, and images).
Automatically populate the page with content from the database.
This allows you to maintain a sleek, professional look while having full control over the content. Plus, updates become much easier as you only need to update the database, and the pages will adjust automatically.
Standard Pages with Manual Updates
If the volume of news isn’t too high, you can manually create static pages for each article. Use anchor links on the main news page to direct readers to specific sections or individual articles.
You can use Wix’s Repeater Elements to create a neat grid or list of news articles.
Design your page to look like a professional news portal.
This gives you complete customization without any of the blog-specific add-ons.
Third-Party Integrations
Consider exploring third-party tools or apps from the Wix App Market that are tailored for content management. These may provide the functionality you need, such as displaying news articles without the clutter of comments or logins.
Look for Inspiration
If you’re searching for ideas on how to set up a clean, professional news page, take a look at sites like MagisTV. Although primarily an IPTV service, its layout provides excellent inspiration for combining simplicity with functionality. A similar streamlined approach can work perfectly for a news page that prioritizes readability and professionalism.
Pro Tip
To optimize for SEO, make sure each news article has a well-structured title, meta description, and alt text for images. Even without the blog feature, Wix allows you to add these custom SEO elements for every page, ensuring your news page performs well in search engines.
Hope this helps you create the perfect news page for your client! Let me know if you need any additional tips.
Following up on this top, since the blog has already been used for member-only content, I am trying to use News for free content sharing. However, I can not make my news display on the homepage and get updated automatically, like the blog section on the homepage.
Does anyone know how to automatically show the new News article on the homepage?
Or, my goal is to have two sets of blogs; one set is for the public and is free. The other set is member-only and is locked. As far as I know, Wix Blog can not do two sets with different permissions. I tried with Category, but that does not support setting for different permissions. If anyone can suggest a way of doing it, I will be very appreciate.
