I’m managing a startup Minecraft community fan site, JMCS Studios , with a fairly unoriginal aspect: a marketplace for people to post Minecraft content on. The JMCS Marketplace is based on Wix Forum. I’m not going to go into what DOES make my studio different from most others.
However, one aspect of the JMCS Marketplace is for only those with an approved (free) JMCS Creators membership to post on the marketplace without breaking the rules. This is to help prevent spam and keep the need for human content moderation to a minimum.
The thing is, I still want VIEWING posts on the Marketplace to be public. Is there any way to restrict ONLY posting in the Marketplace to members with the Creators badge without restricting the ability for anyone to view posts?
I don’t think there’s a way to allow users to see the forum post but not allow them to post. There are quite a few moderation options such as limiting the number of posts a user can create in their first week and make the JMCS Creators moderators so they can help clean out the forum as well.
Forum dev here. Unfortunately there is no out of the box solution to get what you want, but it’s still doable with workarounds.
One way is to have 2 categories. One for reading and limit posting only to “Admin and moderators” only and second category for posting. Limit access to second category only to those who have right to post and once they post, move the post to the first (read only) category.
Very soon (weeks) we will launch post approval ability, so you can turn on post approval for all posts and approve only those made by the members who have right to post (not approved posts, won’t be visible). You can have guidelines (there is a feature for guidelines per category) to explain that only member with right to post will get their posts approved.
