Hey everyone!
We held our last Studio Hours last week, 13th June 2024, looking at Wix Studio best practices.
@JonathanT - a Studio product expert - kicked things off with a demo and answered some questions submitted before the session.
If you couldn’t make it, or want a recap of what was discussed, here are all the questions and answers
How can you get started with Wix Studio?
There are a couple of different ways, depending on your experience, what you’re hoping to achieve, or simply your building style.
Most people start with either a pre-designed template, sections and wireframes within the editor, or a blank canvas - using drag-and-drop.
If you’re still looking for the best method, it’s worth experimenting with these different build styles until you find one that works for you. You might even find yourself switching over time.
What responsive behaviours are available in Wix Studio?
By default, all elements in Wix Studio scale proportionally. There are options to use advanced sizing, which gives greater control over CSS properties like CSS Grid, or units such as VW, VH and more.
You can find out more about setting the size of elements in Studio here.
Is it possible to multi-select elements and change them simultaneously?
It sure is! Hold the shift key and select multi elements - then apply design changes to them all in one go.
It’s worth noting that this only works with elements of the same type - for example, 2 buttons, or 3 text elements. It’s not possible to “multi style” elements of different types at the same time - such as a button and text element.
What changes affect all breakpoints vs the breakpoint I’m working on?
Studio is a cascading editor, meaning changes on larger breakpoints will cascade to breakpoints smaller in size.
Design changes, such as colors, border radius and more can be designed per breakpoint however anything that changes data, like changing the source of an image, of the text in a text element will apply to all breakpoints.
Additionally, structural changes like reparenting an element will apply to all breakpoints.
You can read more about designing across breakpoints here.
