The Future of Wix

Hey there Partners. I wanted to list what Wix needs to fix. This is a PRIORITY LIST.

  1. Site speeds: still unacceptable

  2. Improvement of Wix Support: I can honestly say, Wix Support is bad. Everyone I know who uses Wix says support is the biggest turn off. I invite you to research this for yourself. Support staff always give vague answers that seem as though they are pre-written copy and pasted replies.

  3. Ability to access Site Code, edit it, and export it.

  4. Ability to access CSS Stylesheet

  5. FOCUS on Editor X - the future of Wix.

  6. Ability to edit mobile, tablet (any view-port) for Wix Editor.

  7. Improvement of Wix eCommerce (make it robust and built for high traffic, Afterpay etc)

I can confidently say that these above features are supported by other platforms (I am not going to name competitors  )

I think these points raised are the MAIN cons of Wix, and I’m sure the partners agree with me. (Please leave any more comments below of additional features I may have not covered)

Since the release of Editor X, I have thoroughly enjoyed the platform. It is really an incredible platform. However, as I discussed with Brett, there has been very little activity. It seems like there are only a couple people working on fixing bugs and adding features. I get no response in the Editor X Community. The rate at which Wix fixes problems is far to slow. The competition has now surpassed Wix. I don’t know what is going on. I am afraid I will have to migrate away from Wix. I have been hopeful for too long.

I want to share that Wix has been part of my life for 5 years. It been an incredible journey with everyone here in the partner community, everyone here including Brett and the team have been awesome. One of the highlights of Wix is this thriving community of passionate individuals. I wish everyone the best. Its time to move on!

I truly agree with all of the points you have mentioned here. Site speed is not satisfactory, support is not satisfactory. Bug fixes and feature requests get addressed slowly. Since there is no css support we have to rely on requesting feaures time and again. Features that could have been easily taken care by us otherwise through css. Yet feaures come out slowly, and when they do, they do so with number of bugs.

I really believe that EditorX is the future of Wix and that Wix should priotize that. But so as they say, “classic never goes out of style” Wix should put a little bit more efforts in improving the classic editor as well. I would say start with site speed improvements and screen responsiveness. Maybe the classic editor will forever remain to serve the less tech savvys, but WiX should atleast try to keep up with the market competition and not be in the risk of falling behind.

I am hopeful that things will turnaround for the good.

I can say your top 2 is currently Wix’s top 2 as well.

Some are not as high a priority for Wix as the others, but most are in the pipeline. I can tell you our Ecom is also a huge focus - and it’s clear because Wix is pumping out incredibly powerful features at a rapid pace.

As far as support… I have something I’m also working on for the community. Stay tuned.

@brett Great to hear! I can’t emphasis my points 3 & 4 enough. This will open the door to hundreds of pro developers and allow us to create a plethora of custom functions, without us having to wait for Wix to develop these features. Just reading the Editor X community, I see heaps of posts titled “Where can I find the CSS Stylesheet and site code?” and then there shock to find out it cannot be accessed. It’s like buying a sports car, and then you finding out its hood and trunk are bolted shut… if you get what I mean!! I would be great if you could be the voice of the Partner Community and really push Wix devs to incorporate these features in Editor X for us pro designers. I’d appreciate it!

@dee4charlotte Yes I agree 100%. It’s frustrating. I want to bang my head on the table!!! :joy:I’m just so passionate, i being vocal about my issues. It’s for the best.

I would list a few more. Curious if others have same experience as well.

  1. Teamwork : One of the first things that separate a professional software company from a freelancer is that the company works with teams. Wix’s answer to working in teams for us seems very weak. The local editor besides being unreliable, sometimes is not pushing full pages to the main repo and we can’t even merge those files as they are opaque data. Is it working for you guys? Are you working in teams? How do you do it?
  2. Editor X : I cannot comment on how good Editor X is due to the fact that it does not present interest until Wix allows upgrade of current sites to Editor X. Till then it is a no-go for me and customers. All the work invested in previous sites cannot just be started over.
  3. WixBlocks : The fact that Wix does not allow to place custom elements in Wix Blocks, prevents people from being able to place charts (amongst other elements) in those reusable components, which is fine for simple purposes, but when we need more advanced stuff and what usually customers pay for this is an absolute no-go
  4. NPM package management: A decentralized approach would be much better, let’s say once a package is accepted, the developer should be able to update the latest one for himself as there are bugs in the installed NPM packages. This makes the process very cumbersome and introduces delays into the projects
  5. File handling: instead of being able to grab and push files in any backend eg. AWS, Google, Azure we are limited to media manager and not even having a proper way of handling files

On the flip-side I’d like to say a huge thanks for introducing realtime web, that’s a big thumbs up and with features like this you get a lot of credibility. At the same time I’d like to see how we can manage the other topics as well that me or the previous people listed in order to be able to sell Wix to our customers.

Thank you so much for this detailed feedback - it’s great!

Regarding #2, it’s something we’re definitely thinking about and understand is a priority.

These are greats points! Teamwork is definitely a problem on Wix. We cannot have two or more people editing the website at the same time either. Thanks for this comment!!

Then there are the features that other platforms don’t offer.
A decade of WIX sites now, I use others also, but given it was intended as a user friendly non expert platform, the growth has been amazing.

Also, I’ve seen the webinar of increasing database loading speed, but WHY it only for frontend, not the dashboard page? Most time we load a lot of data because the site admin need to do big updates of the data on the dashboard page, and it loads SLOW… I don’t want to move it to front end page…

Fair point and I believe that’s why we are all here. This should not be a pros/cons discussion, but rather a view from partners’s side on what needs to happen @Wix to better fit the needs of a fair amount of paying end users. At the end of the day we all want to make some business. Isnt’t that true? Now I feel it’s too much small business/freelancer vs larger business/enterprise/professional service providers.
