Up until today, I have not had issues updating my historical society website. However, today any new uploaded documents (.docx or .pdf) give me a “Forbidden” error when I click on the access link.
There is no number with the “Forbidden” (e.g. Forbidden 403); only a 8pt “Forbidden” in the upper left corner of big white screen. I get the same result on two different computers and two different browsers (Firefox & Edge). I’ve logged out and logged back in and cleared my cache - no difference. Does anyone have any other suggestions to try.
Not sure whether it is permissions or file-serving.
Try re-uploading one file with a simple name (no spaces or special characters), then publish the site and test in incognito mode. Also make sure the file isn’t in a restricted members-only area - they sould be in Media Manager along with previously uploaded files.
I understand you did it the same way beforeand it worked, but maybe your naming of the files changed, or something else in your previous pattern.
It may be a temporary Wix CDN or permissions glitch though…
I am having the same problem. All pdf files uploaded prior to today open normally. The pdf I uploaded today gets a FORBIDDEN error when I try to open it. If I link to a file that was uploaded a week ago it will open. The problem seems to be with the file that was uploaded today. It will also open on the computer
Thanks for confirming that you are also experiencing this bizarre issue. Out of curiosity: Are you the primary or only collaborator on your website?
The reason for asking is that there is one other collaborator who has access to the society website and he can link/relink the new documents w/o getting the “Forbidden” error. So, he was able to fix the links but I still cannot.
Guessing it’s some sort of permission issue that gets addressed by Wix soon. Will let you know if that happens.
Thanks for the suggestions. There is no restricted members-only area and the files are in the same folder as the previously uploaded doc files.
As mentioned, it’s interesting my co-collaborator doesn’t experience the same issue and can link/re-link to the documents and they become viewable. When I try it…”Forbidden”.
I am having the same problem. I’ve spent hours and tried everything to get PDF to work. I can use links to photo albums just fine. I can’t display PDFs from a button or a link to a document after using the Media upload function. Please help soon.
