I’m sure by now a lot of you have done your research with SEO and followed the #wixSEOguide. However, what you might not have noticed is how the speed of your website could be impacting your sites search engine ratings!
Before I continue, I will go on record by saying that WIX as a platform is pretty damn good, I have been using it for my own website for some time.
Although I have a little coding experience from college, I am more of a designer than a programmer; so WIX has helped with a lot of the hassle with building a bespoke website. So much so that I have developed client websites using this platform starting off with my first e-commerce client site from AAR this then brought me into developing an even more comprehensive site for a client in the form of Vector Air . They have had their hiccups but the overall useability for the clients and myself have been great.
This is where the issues then come in… the AAR website has been operating since January (I think) and the Vector Air one for about a month. As more and more traffic coming into the site, the more issues, I as the webmaster, get sent from both customers and clients.
Issues such as:
-
The inability to search just the store and not the entire page.
-
The inability to navigate the store by searchable features; so I had to implement a system by which the options where the features so they would show up on the filters.
-
Having to invite contacts to become members of the site has to be done as an invite to the #Wixapp.
-
Clients are unable to mark costs for each product instead of having to rely on an external spreadsheet.
-
The inability to embed videos rather than having to upload and use storage
-
A lack of sub-sub pages without the need of using #corvid so clients can make changes themselves.
However, I digress as I suppose these issues are more of a #featurerequest in comparison to the issue I cannot seem to fix… the speed of the site.
For the life of me, I cannot seem to improve the speed of any of the websites I make using the #WIXeditor, they are always quite slow in comparison to other sites, I’m not sure if it’s just an inherent issue with website builders or if it’s me.
Yes, I embellish a lot of things at client request such as the use of animations etc. but surely these are not the only thing slowing the site down. I know that the size of the website can also have an impact, but how would one minimise this?
I have spent some time scrolling around google and here in the #WIXpartnercommunity for answers, some have been helpful, some appeared to have no impact.
So today I decided to do some site checkups using SEO SC and it revealed that YES, Wix is indeed a damn good SEO builder. However, it is being let down by its speed and its size (and a few other issues seen in this report such as apparently no favicon…)
So my question is if SEO is affected by speed, which is in turn affected by the size, what can we do about all of this so we can appease the great god google?
Thank you and sorry to all who have read my rant, but it comes from a good place, I like this platform and I don’t want to have to slag it off but sometimes change can only be brought about by kicking up a fuss.
