What to do with URLs of products we no longer carry

Question:
We are removing around 30 products that we are no longer going to sell. I’m trying to figure out the best course of action in regards to the URL and SEO.
Should I:

  1. Remove the product and let the page 404
  2. Remove the product and setup a 301 redirect (if so, where to, we no longer sell this type of product at all)
  3. Just hide the product from our store and leave them live, just hide them from customers
  4. Something else?

I don’t want any negative impacts from SEO and want to know the best possible course of action from an SEO standpoint.

What are you trying to achieve:
I’m trying to remove our candy products that we no longer sell. We don’t sell any other type of product and I want to know what to do with the URLs from an SEO standpoint.

What have you already tried:
I’m seeing conflicting information from searching online.

Additional information:
Products will never be listed on our site again. They are going to be permanently not sold.

Follow what the big guys do ….

When Amazon has a product they no longer carry, they leave the page and add a “Unknown when this product will be available again. Check out these popular categories “

And they add other things that are popular at the moment. They don’t have to be related at all. Just any links to anything else will work —— for SEO purposes.
