Will Migrating From WordPress to Wix Affect My SEO Rankings in Finland?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering migrating my website from WordPress to Wix and wanted to get some advice before making the move.

My website is currently getting good traffic from Finland, and SEO performance is very important for me. I’m worried about whether moving to Wix could negatively affect my rankings, indexed pages, or organic traffic.

This is my website:

Has anyone here migrated from WordPress to Wix successfully?
What should I be careful about during the migration to avoid losing SEO rankings?

I’d really appreciate any tips or experiences from the community.

Thanks!

You’re asking the right questions  So kudos there!

Here’s a few things I’ve picked up/learnt over time:

Any platform migration carries inherent SEO risks, but if you manage the transition carefully, you can absolutely minimize the impact on traffic.

Here is a checklist of the most critical things to handle before, during, and after the move to protect your rankings:

  1. The #1 Priority: URL Redirects (301s)
If you’re planning on changing the URL structures, and you don’t redirect the old ones, you’ll get 404 errors - which will impact rankings.

I personally like to work with a spreadsheet, and map the old URLs to the new ones - it’s helpful for understanding where you might need to setup those redirects.

  2. Match the Content & Structure
It’s okay to make changes to the structure during the change - but consider that this may introduce additional noise during a move (it’ll eventually settle).

Remember that search engines like Google will have already indexed your site, so retaining things like the content, keywords, internal linking structure and heading tags (H1, H2, H3 etc) as identical as possible on the new Wix pages will help.

Personally, I would try to keep things pretty identical, and then optimize later.

Don’t try to redesign the layout and change all the copy at the exact same moment you migrate. Do the migration first, let it settle, and optimize later.

  3. Page Speed and Core Web Vitals
Double check your site built on Wix before going live. Check things like images are optimised, it’s loading well etc.

  4. Post-Launch Checklist
The moment the Wix site goes live:

  • Submit your new Sitemap: Go to Google Search Console and submit your new Wix sitemap.

  • Monitor Indexing: Watch for any crawl errors or dropped pages in Search Console over the first 2–3 weeks.

There’s probably a few more things to consider, but the above is a good start, and what comes to mind first. Good luck with the move!
