Wix Chat App Positioning

Question:
Does anyone know if there is a workaround to move the native Wix Chat App to ANY position in the Wix Classic Editor? This applies to both the normal Chat App as well as to the Wix AI Chat App.

And secondly: it appears that the Wix Chat App can not be made visible in a lightbox. Does anyone have a workaround for that?

Unfortunately not, these widgets are intended to be pinned in the lower corners of the editor.

Can you share a little more about what you’re hoping to achieve?

I don’t know if we can make it using lightbox but take a look at this api (wix chat backend)
Send Message | Velo
There is an example about the chat with input element that can be made with wix elements.
For wix chat box , I think we can only dock to the end corner of the page.

Hi Noah, thanks for the prompt response – happy to explain in more detail:

If the Chat App (whether the regular chat or the AI version) could be positioned freely anywhere in the Classic Editor, it would give designers and partners much more flexibility. For example:

  • It could serve as a clear CTA in the top right corner of a header.
  • It could be embedded in a lightbox for proactive engagement.
  • It could sit naturally on a contact page among other contact options.

This level of placement control would allow us to design around the chat app instead of treating it as a passive floating button. This would help drive much higher engagement and conversion to chat conversations and therefore to client sales.

Is there any chance this kind of flexibility is on the roadmap?

I’m not sure about the AI chat, but I know when Wix Chat (default) is installed, you can add a “Wix Chat Button” from the add panel, that will open the chat widget from the bottom corner.

For example, you can add the CTA in your header, and once clicked, will open the window to begin the chat.

Valid and useful point and it definitely helps! However, the chat app does need to be installed and visible on at least one page, as far as I understand. The whole point of such a button should be that the default chat app icon is not shown.

The same button is, however, still missing for the AI chat box. Would be great to have that as well.
