Wix Studio vs Wix Editor

I have been a GoDaddy reseller for many years. They recently made some changes to their reseller platform that will not allow me to create beta sites for my customers.

I am exploring Wix and am having some challenges figuring out the differences between Wix Editor and Studio.

One of my needs is for their to be a ton of templates available which I do not see on the Studio side of things. Any input would be helpful. The Wix Platform per web site is almost 3x the price from GoDaddy but I am between a rock and a hard place…

Thanks in advance

I have never used GoDaddy for creating sites I only used to for hosting or domain, so I can’t compare Wix and GoDaddy but here are some info about the editors at Wix:

Wix Editor

This is the older and easy to use editor of Wix generally best for people who don’t care about so much details and just want to publish basic sites or people who doesn’t care about advanced design needs.

Almost anything you do here is also possible in Studio Editor.

Wix Studio Editor

This editor is kinda new version of Editor X and main difference from classic editor (we call Wix Editor as classic editor too) is you can create fully responsive websites which is something very important in todays standarts.

In classic editor you can create responsive sites too but it’s different you create two different version if your UI one for desktop one for mobile and there isn’t any version for tablets.

In Studio you also have a lot of advanced UI features like flexbox, grids, animations, effects etc. You may ask about “what are the classic editor advantages then?”. Well in my opinion there isn’t much.

Advantages if you use classic editor over studio

  • cheaper premium plans
  • some apps in marketplace are not supported in studio but supported in classic editor
  • easier to use because you don’t have to deal with advanced UI features like grids
  • some extra UI components (very few)

So in the end if you are selling sites it’s best to learn and use studio instead of classic editor. If your clients needs aligns with classic editor you can also use it.

About Templates

Since classic editor is there for like 10+ years there is much more templates than studio editor. You’ll be able to sell and buy templates soon (maybe it’s even possible right now I’m not sure) so you may prefer it too. But currently there aren’t a lot templates for studio editor.

I hope this helps!

Regarding templates for Wix Studio, the team has announced that they will soon be launching a template marketplace for Studio, where users can create and sell their own templates, and this will surely bring in a lot of visually stunning templates for Studio.
