Partner Round Table: Exciting Changes Coming to the Editor

I would be happy with a couple optional “fixed” break points. Currently we have mobile and desktop. Even if we had the option to customize for tablet that would be great.

I don’t think I would want to be “required” to design the tablet version…but would be great to turn it on and optimize the site for that size.

Great updates! I have a few questions/ request for the mobile additions:

  1. Can we have a horizontal swipe component for galleries, repeater records and images. Currently, everything shows vertically. It would be nice to swipe left or right to view more images or the next set of records in a repeater or image.

  2. Can we anchor components to portions of the mobile screen? Like a box or button.

  3. Can we have custom “click” interactions (or states) for mobile elements. Much like the hover interactions on the desktop version.

If you implement these improvements, we will be able to design interfaces that work more like an app. Which would be amazing!

@rhen The issue is when someone resizes their browser, the mobile view does not load automatically like it does on editor X. This provides a bad experience for users. Im not specifically talking about the editor itself because seeing it there is fine, I don’t care about if I resize my browser while editing or being able to use the drag markers to change the size. This is specifically for the website itself and when a customer/viewer is on the website.

I get where you’re coming from, I view it as less than 3% of all visitors are using tablets and it is optimized for tablet currently.

I don’t know the percentage of people that are resizing their browsers, can’t view it properly, and then decide to leave instead of going full view. That sounds like such a low percentage that it should be on Wix’s radar, but very low in terms of executing on

Another request regarding the Strips…

Can we please get a vertical strip option, with the ability to anchor top, middle and bottom of the strip.

So many use cases for vertical strips.

@rhen I realize the number is about 3% but about 50% of the population own a tablet and our clients report decent tablet use for browsing and shopping, especially among the older actively engaged community. Perhaps the friendlier we become to that market the more gains we make. Editor X does give us the ability to target these devices with breakpoints. I think a third view would be helpful. It’s not a top priority but perhaps a great opportunity.

Like vertical sections/strips as seen in Editor X.

Yep!

@brett Love how hard the WIX team works. The team members are super smart, capable, and accessible. Their efforts should be applauded especially while working under duress.

I’m loving all the feedback. This thread is FIRE!

Repeating this here because it needs to be. We’ve had the opportunity to work with the amazing WIX product, support, and partner teams. And we love how hard the WIX team works. The team members are super smart, capable, and accessible. Their efforts should be applauded especially while some are working under duress.:sunglasses:

Yes, the ability to create multiple custom Menus is so needed!!!

Always worth mentioning - thanks Ed!

@ed59260 I agree with ya, a lot of development backlog for their team!

My ongoing feature request is: unpopulated elements. I don’t want to deconstruct everything (e.g. a repeater) after I add it to my page. It just chews up unnecessary time. Just give me the option to add blank elements.

This relates to the announcement because I would prefer that if you click the blue + button to add a strip that it just adds a blank strip above the plus symbol. Taking me to the strip panel is sort of okay but not a ideal for my work flow.

Admittedly, I may be the odd ball in the group but I almost never use pre-formatted anything—I never use the templates, pre-formatted pages, elements, etc.

I agree. I can see how the current implementation can be useful so I think a good option would be to allow the user to toggle it in their preferences. We could choose if we want the plus button to add a blank strip or take us to the strip panel.

For blank items in general, I think most site elements like slideshows, repeaters, etc. should have a blank option because like Shannon said, I almost never use a templated design and I’m usually destructing what I have to choose so I can start over with a blank item.

It would be great to have a Tablet preview mode. Where do I sign the petition? :sunglasses:

haha - I feel like that was the #1 request during the RT!

Hi Wix community,
Thank you for its news

Indeed I think that if a tablet mode is added, it will be a real advance on the “standard” editor since there is only editor X.

I see that Wix is in the process of modifying the design of the standard editor towards the design of editor X to gently guide its users towards this path.
