I’m almost done with an Editor X website and I’m getting to the point where I’m ready to connect the domain. The client I’m working with currently has their domain with Go Daddy.
I know that I can transfer the domain through my dashboard, but my question is, does my client have to pay extra to transfer over the domain or will their payments continue through Go Daddy only?
You have to pay the Editor X hosting. If the domain name stays at Go Daddy. You have to pay for the name there. If you transfer the name as well as you pay only to Editor X. Apart for mailboxes, they could stay at Go Daddy if they exist there. But you can transfer them as well. With websites there are three things, hosting of the site, domain name and mail. They can exist with different providers.
A few more questions so I can get a better understanding:
If Editor X is hosting the site, is that something I’m paying for in my subscription to Editor X (depending on the type of membership of course) or is it on the client to pay for it?
What would be the best course of action so that they aren’t charged more than they’re already paying for Go Daddy? Would it be them switching hosts from Go Daddy to Editor X? If they switch to Editor X, do they cancel Go Daddy and use their previous domain name?
When you publish your site, it’s free. But when you connect the domain of your client, you have to choose a hosting plan. You have made the site, so you are the owner, and you have to pay for the plan. You can also invite your client and give them permissions to pay.
I don’t know what kind of site your client have, static HTML or WordPress, but I think Go Daddy is cheaper. But Editor X is much better, faster and saver than WordPress. We do a lot of WordPress sites, but we are switching to Editor X It’s great!
If you connect their domain name to Editor X, they don’t have to pay Go Daddy for hosting any more. But if the domain registration or mailboxes stay there, they have to pay for that at Go Daddy.
