For those who missed the WIX conference on January 10, important announcements were made for developers.
Premium sites now benefit from access to 100,000 storage items, with the option of purchasing additional items if this limit is exceeded! Restrictions on monthly data, secrets, data requests and the dashboard will be lifted, as will those on automatic or manual backups.
WIX listened to us, and I’d like to sincerely thank them, especially @noahlovell and @pamela who listened throughout the process. I understand that sometimes developers’ messages weren’t easy to accept, but these limitations impacted businesses, freelancers, people who use WIX to make a living. That’s why we fought.
In the future, if you’re looking for feedback on future features or “limitations”, I’m completely open as a developer to giving my opinion, and I think my fellow developers are too. Don’t hesitate to get in touch - it’ll save you a lot of trouble in the future!
Of course, there are still improvements to be made (particularly in terms of blog customization), but that will come in time. The January 10 conference has rekindled my confidence in WIX, and I hope it will continue to do so!
Thanks @Lucas_dev, but I want to say thank YOU (and everyone else who shared their feedback). We’re always listening and here for all of the feedback everyone has to share.
I’m glad to hear you’re beginning to feel more confident in Wix, and can’t wait to see some of the creations you’ll go on to make
Ohh, and not sure if you saw it, but customising Blog post layouts is on it’s way
Agree!! Thank you SO MUCH wix team for not just listening to our feedback but actively implementing changes that will allow us to use wix to the best of our abilities.
And thanks @Lucas_dev for being a stalwart advocate and strong voice for all of us developers on Wix. You did a wonderful job of comprehensively outlining both the issues we were facing and how the changes limited our ability to do our jobs effectively. Thanks again!
Looking forward to growing with Wix and diving more into Wix Studio
@Lucas_dev@JessCK We really appreciate that! Thank YOU and everyone in the community! Your feedback is highly valued and is extremely important to us. We do actually read it all! We’re always advocating for the voice of the community and want to make sure the community is heard; that’s literally our job! We’re here for you!
I saw the email last night (pasted below for anyone that didn’t receive it). Still holding a little bit of reservation to see what the cost of additional items is and what the limits are on all plans, as we may not be out of the woods yet.
It seems that these changes really only affect the highest price Elite tier (CAD$149/mo for us) and the next tier down ‘Plus’ is still 10,000 items. I feel that there should still be something bridging this gap, and that Plus should be more like 30K items.
I would like to thank Wix, and especially @noahlovell and @pamela for helping us pass our message along and mediating quite a few frustrated users like us! It’s nice to know that we can make a change and that the forum works. I hope if there are still issues with the CMS limits, we can keep this conversation going.
Here’s the email I received on this:
From today, we’re introducing higher quotas and removing some limits to make your creation and development processes smoother.
To start, if you reach the quota for CMS items on Elite and Business Elite plans, you can purchase more. You’ll get a notification in your site dashboard and an email where you’ll be able to choose a custom CMS quota for your project’s needs. You can read more about custom CMS quotas here.
In addition—as an exclusive benefit for Partners and Studio creators—we’re increasing CMS quotas on free Wix and Wix Studio sites. The new quotas allow up to 10,000 CMS items and 50 collections before upgrade, so you have more freedom during creation. To find out more about how CMS quotas will adjust once you upgrade to a Premium plan, check out this article.
Finally, we’re removing Velo limits for monthly read and write requests and dashboard pages on all Wix and Wix Studio Premium plans. The following limits will also be increased for all plans to match what’s currently available on the highest-tier plans:
Indeed, I think we have a problematic point as the plan plus limit is far too low to allow efficient database management, especially given the price paid. I think @noahlovell will also be interested in your feedback, he passed on our concerns to WIX, but the problem hasn’t been solved, the plan plus must see its quota increased, because it’s totally out of the question for me to charge my customers $178 per month for 100,000 items, and beyond that my customers don’t have the means, the plan plus should reach at least 50,000 items! I think it’s important for WIX to make such a change for our own good, and above all for the good of our customers.
After more time thinking on this and with a bit more inspection, I agree. While it’s good that certain aspects have been taken on board, our main request does seem to have been missed and there are still problems with this result.
Making free plans have up to 10K is nice, but then they’re essentially telling us that 10K items isn’t costing them anything to maintain on their servers. So if that’s true, why does the Plus plan that costs CAD$500/year only have 10K items inside?
All our sites are currently on this tier, and 3 of them would be over the limit when this comes into effect for us, resulting in a 200% cost increase for those clients, which is not really acceptable for them, or for us.
So, @noahlovell, I know you’ve worked hard to pass our message along and reach this result, but this is still problematic. Is there any reason that Wix can’t just utilise the industry standard for database companies by working with Data Quotas? For example, each plan gets X GB of database storage and read/write per month, or better yet a price per GB used in line with current industry pricing. See MongoDB’s pricing structure.
If that’s not possible, both @Lucas_dev and I would like to keep pushing for higher limits on the more commonly used plans like Plus. I don’t have a single client on the Elite level.
If you’re a Wix developer that’s also interested in countering this offer, please add your voice to the comments below and tag Noah in.
It’s with pleasure that I’ll continue to defend the interests of developers on WIX, because I love this platform. But I’d like to see these packages evolve. On the EditorX plans, we had access to 10GB of storage, but that’s no longer the case, so why, especially in terms of price, is it higher on WIX STUDIO with 100x less storage space?
On top of that, WIX explained at the conference that they had listened to developers, but ignored our main problem! @Breakscape is right, why not apply the usual GO standard? Why can’t we buy CMS elements on the Plus and Standard plans? My customers have absolutely no need for all the options on the Elite plan, so I can’t possibly sell them this package, and even if I could I refuse to rip off my customers by selling them tons of options they won’t need!
I’d sincerely like this point to be re-evaluated to take into account the demand that has been the subject of so much debate in recent months, and which was unfortunately ignored by WIX at the conference. Because in the end, it’s still the freelancers who sell websites who suffer from this limitation of the classic plan…
I know @noahlovell has worked hard to make our voice heard, but today the problem persists because the most important point for ALL developers has been put aside!
I’m struggling to comprehend the limitations of the CMS, and it’s crucial for me to grasp this understanding to effectively communicate it to my clients. A limitation of 10k doesn’t seem substantial, but selling a solution with restricted scalability raises concerns. I’m puzzled by the discrepancy – why would a client using 5GB of storage and 20k CMS data consume fewer resources than someone using 9GB with 1k CMS data?
Wix, I need your guidance on explaining these intricacies to my clients, especially when I lack clarity on the pricing structure. How can I convey the concept of scalability without precise pricing information? It feels challenging to inform clients that, for example, having 11k database entries would incur a hosting cost of €2000 per year. This seems steep, especially when alternatives like Firebase offer scalable solutions at a seemingly more reasonable rate. Please provide insight on how to navigate and communicate these complexities effectively.
With that pricing i would be able to save millions of database entries with google firebase…
I mean sure you are not paying for database only with wix but still imho you would have to add one zero to make it make sense
For 179€ i would want to be able to store 1 million cms data, and instead I would be ok to to pay for extra GB. Extra gb is easier to sell to myclients!
BUT WHY DOES WIX NOT OVER A PAY AS YOU GO OPTION INSTEAD.
Lets say somebody is totally happy with limitations on plus except cms data:
Why shuldnt this client be able t jut buy anther 100k cms data for 10 usd.
If the cms data does not contain any images i am pretty sure the ressources that will be added are not even 10gb. 10€ for 10gb would be already expensive. But easier for agencies to explain to clients.
@noahlovell Please let me know what will happen to existing sites regarding the CMS limit. We have three sites on the old Wix plans (Business Unlimited) which as I understand it, did not have CMS limits. When these plans renew will we then face the CMS limits? Or can we stay on the old plans as long as we continue to renew?
Sure, it’s a response, but not the one developers expected. We are asking for more freedom and stability.
Did you see the latest post? Someone is going to have to shut down their site, which aimed to promote lesser-known artists. All of this for what? To enforce a ridiculous limit? You see, this is exactly what I’m fighting against. You target the small players and force them to shut down their sites. But from my side, I have all the time to keep discussing this issue!
