Wix Restaurants & Printing Orders Wix, Please Bring Back Wix Restaurants Mobile App!!

The Wix Restaurants Mobile App is now not available on the Apple Store or Play Store and has been replaced by the “Wix Mobile App”. All my Restaurant clients don’t like or need it as all they want/need access to is their incoming orders. On the Wix Restaurants Mobile App they could see their orders, accept them and print them to a Thermal Printer call Star Micronics T650ii, that Wix recommended is compatible with the Wix Restaurants Mobile App. This printer cost in excess of €300/$300. The new Wix Mobile App doesn’t allow Restaurant Owners to print from the App meaning the $300 printer recommended by Wix is now useless.

I have now asked all my restaurant owners to revert to Windows and to access their Orders via the Wix Restaurant Dashboard. This allows them to print but depending on the interface of their printer (most use Bluetooth), I now have many angry restaurant owners who have had to switch of their ordering systems until they get a new printer as their printer isn’t compatible.

I have tried to set up several Thermal Printers with 80mm print capability but the width of the Wix Order on Windows is too wide and misses several mm of text so restaurant owners can’t read the full order and no matter what settings I configure on Windows Printer Devices or on the printer, it still won’t adjust or align the print to fit on 80mm wide printer receipt paper.

Wix seen to think that a standard desktop printer is the solution, but can you imagine handing an A4 size page with a printed order to a Chef!!!

Can anyone suggest a Printer or a Solution… It doesn’t need to be a Google Cloud Printer, just a Thermal Printer with 80mm paper width with Wifi & USB interface that will allow the full text of the Wix order to be visible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Steven but I’ve brought this issue up with support on several occasions… The new Wix Mobile App doesn’t work for restaurants. On the old Wix Restaurants Mobile App, when a restaurant sees a new order, the click “Accept” the click the 3 vertical dots and this will give the 3 options, “Email”, “Reject” or “Print” so when the click print it prints perfectly on the Star Micronics T650ii that Wix had recommended, but on the new Wix Mobile App, the restaurant got to “Manage Orders” to see all Order, then clicks “Accept Order” and then when they click the 3 vertical dots the only options available are “Email” & “Reject” and the “Print” function isn’t available. Wix Support told me several times that tha new Wix App doesn’t have a “Print” function, so the Wix App is useless to restaurant owners.

However, I have reverted most to Windows to access their Windows Dashboard but most who have invested $300 on the Star Micronics Thermal Printer that Wix recommended are now out of pocket because this printer doesn’t work unless they change the interface and then the problem is the width of the print on the 80mm ticket receipt doesn’t fit.

I’m sure you’ll agree that its impossible to hook up a standard desktop printer to print in A4 size pages. This simply won’t work in kitchens.

Bring back the Wix Restaurants Mobile App for Apple and Android will quickly resolve the problem but the new Wix Mobile App is useless for restaurants and that feedback is from my clients, not me. What’s the point in being able to view and accept orders and not be able to print them?

As I said, I reverted most to the Windows version of their Wix Restaurant but I now need a compatible thermal printer that can print on 80mm width paper. The old Wix Restaurants Mobile App printed the orders perfectly.

If there’s no resolution, I will potentially lose many clients in the future but I urgently need to find a solution to the clients I currently have using Wix or I could end up having to refund them.

Couldn’t agree more: because of this at my restaurant we hand write (I’m not kidding) orders as they come in… I don’t see this in feature requests though.

Also, I should have added that Wix has the auto print option, but it requires Google Cloud Print, which is being deprecated… (in addition to having very few Google Cloud Print compatible POS printers)

@Xavier and @shan , @stevenjose & @annahelise … At this stage I know POS / Thermal printers inside out!!.. Most of my restaurant clients ARE NOT interested in the Automatic Google Cloud Printers because when the order is automatically printed, it also automatically “Accepts” the order and most DON’T want this feature because at exceptionally busy times, they may need to Reject an Order, so Google Cloud Printers are NOT important with my query.

Wix Restaurants recommended the Star Micronics TSP650ii Thermal / POS Printer on the section of FAQ’s in their Help/Support Centre, as it was compatible with the old Wix Restaurants Mobile App. As the Wix Restaurants Mobile App is no longer supported and no longer available on the Apple Store & Google Play Store, these $300+ printers are now useless because the NEW Wix Mobile App doesn’t have a Print feature/interface, so if you view your Orders on the NEW Wix Mobile App, you have no alternative but to hand-write the orders. So basically the NEW Wix Mobile App is useless for Restaurants (according to my clients).

As I mentioned, I have now reverted all my clients to access their website dashboard on Windows… It’s very easy to add any desktop printer driver to any laptop or device they use to access their Wix website dashboard, but nobody wants a printer that prints A4 size orders because the kitchen/chef can’t use them and the cost of ink cartridges is way too expensive, so what I’m trying to find out and have been exhausting myself to find out from Wix Restaurants since the Wix Restaurant Mobile App closed, is there a POS/Thermal printer compatible with Wix Restaurants in Windows or any other platform that will allow a restaurant to print receipt tickets on 80mm wide paper, the correct size for kitchens? The image below is the POS/Thermal Printer recommended by Wix Restaurants and it works perfect from the old Wix Restaurants Mobile App.

I just need an alternative solution very quickly or I could end up having to refund my clients for each website I designed for their restaurant. Surely Wix Restaurants Team understand that only Thermal Printers are used in restaurants. Desktop printers with A4 size paper is not practical and most restaurants I have will end up having to replace printer cartridges every week because of the amount of orders they print, which is a massive expense.

Thanks @annahelise but I’ve spoken to multiple support agents about this and nobody seems to have a clue except to quote references from the Help / Support Centre and that’s why I asked on this Forum to see if any other designer or restaurant owner has a solution to the printer problem. I’m sure you would agree that if the NEW Wix Mobile App doesn’t have a Print Feature when a restaurant owner sees an order coming in, then the Wix Mobile App is fairly useless to Restaurant Owners. The last Wix Support Agent I spoke to about this 3 weeks ago said he would add it as a “Future Request”… As a result, I have to revert my clients to Windows to view their orders on the Wix website dashboard and they are all perfectly happy to do this, but we now have a problem printing order tickets on the POS/Thermal Printers recommended by Wix at $300+ each. Setting up a desktop printer is easy but impractical and useless. I’ve never spoke to a member of the Wix Restaurant Team. It seems they are untouchable… I’d love to have a Chat on the phone with a member of the Wix Restaurants Team where we could perhaps share issues and solutions.

@annahelise is there anything you can do to escalate this urgently please? I also have many customers who are very unhappy with me due to Wix Restaurant App being withdrawn and now unable to print Orders to a thermal printer.

Do Wix understand that the removal of Wix Restaurant App and it’s functionality is putting companies out of business?

@vern @annahelise Hi Vern, I spoke to the Wix Restaurant Team last week and have several emails confirming that restaurants can only print orders on a desktop printer that prints an A4 size page. Printing on desktop printers is totally unpractical, slow with the regular replacement of expensive ink cartridges.

They also said that a Print feature/interface was being developed for the NEW Wix Mobile App. Everyone of my restaurant clients dislike the NEW Wix App. There is No ETA on when the printing issue will be resolved, so I have requested that they re-instate the Wix Restaurant Mobile App temporarily to resolve the issue.

Today, I had another busy fast food outlet who called me to say their Wix Restaurant Mobile App has stalled and Apple don’t allow Data & Cache clearing anymore and force you to delete and re-install the App. I will be forced to refund my restaurant clients my fee for designing their sites + the cost of the Star Micronics TSP650ii Thermal Printer at approc $350 and this will put my business under immense financial pressure. As a result, I have now had to talk to another Web Developer to look into developing an ordering system as I fear it will take the Wix Restaurants Developers months and more to resolve the problem.

I can’t understand the thinking behind Wix Restaurants decision to launch an App for Restaurants that can’t print orders and their thinking into the functions and mechanics of how restaurants orders are received and processed.

As I mentioned, I have emailed them to request to re-instate the Wix Restautant Mobile App on the Apple Store temporarily but I’ve had no reply to my request. If you haven’t deleted the Wix Restaurant Mobile App or it hasn’t frozen, then it still works, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put it back on the Apple Store for download.

I’ve had 1 week of sleepless nights worrying about how much this Wix Restaurants ERROR OF JUDGEMENT will cost me.

@annahelise Hi Anna, as of several hours ago, I have asked for definite answers and the Wix Restaurants Team haven’t taken anything in to consideration yet. For any Restaurant business NOT to be able to print orders is just not feasible and that basically makes the whole Wix Restaurant platform USELESS. What person within the Wix organisation would consider that the printing of orders is the least fundamental part of what a Restaurant requires? I have been told a printing function is in development but there is no ETA. I also spoke to Star Micronics to try find a solution and they said the all the Star Micronics TSP650ii Bluetooth Printers that have been purchased by thousands of Wix Restaurant users as now useless until Wix develop an integration similar to that on the OLD Wix Restaurants Mobile App. I have also been told the the OLD Wix Restaurants Mobile App can’t be re-instated on the Apple Store as a temporary solution, so right now I’m backed in to a corner with no way out, no temporary solution and no time frame for a permanent solution. So somebody please tell me, How can there be any future for Wix Restaurants if a Restaurant can’t print orders?

@annahelise It shouldn’t be a request or Feature Request… This is a the MAIN FEATURE of how Restaurants Operate. How else are they suppose to take Food Orders? I’ll more than likely be out of business by the time the “Request” is resolved. Nobody can tell me when it will be added. It should be prioritised above any other development as Wix Restaurant users need it urgently

J’ai moi aussi acheté (puis revendu) l’imprimante thermique STAR compatible google cloud print avec les problemes d’impressions déjà indiqués. Du coup, je me suis retourné vers une imprimante HP LaserJet Pro M15W et une impression format A5. Mes clients sont plutot satisfait car la commande est très lisible et guere plus encombrante qu’un ticket thermique.
L’imprimante est petite pour une imprimante standard (demi format en largeur). Elle est bien moins chère (80 € vs 350 €)
Le seul probleme est donc le chargement du papier… En attendant mieux.

Come on wix, get on this! You need standalone apps for android and IOS that allow restaurants to accept and print orders ( to thermal printers, NOT GOOGLE CLOUD PRINT!), handle reservations and edit menus. They dont need (or want employees to have access to) their entire site. You basically already had this and got rid of it? :thinking: Restaurants are going out of business everywhere and want an afordable way to transition to online ordering without paying insane commissions to “the other guys”. You are so close just fix this one small issue and you’ll be it but for now I, and I’m sure many others will be forced to go another route…
