If I upgrade I get a free 1 year domain, cool right?
after my upgrade expire and my website is already connected to the domain, do I need to pay for the upgrade and for the domain in order to hide editor x brand or what will happen?

When you upgrade, you begin paying for a Premium plan. That plan is a subscription – when it expires, you’ll be charged for another period (typically a year, although the length of the period is up to you).
Domain registration is also for a time period (again, typically a year, but you can choose a different period). When your initial (free) period expires, you’ll be charged the regular price to renew for another period.

I know this process, but my point is, when my subscription expires, will my assigned domain be unassigned if I didn’t pay? does that mean editor x will appear again on my website’s top?

If your premium subscription lapses you will revert to a free plan. This means:
Your site will no longer be connected to a domain
The Editor X banner will re-appear
If your domain registration hasn’t lapsed (it is independent of your premium plan) you will still own the domain, but it will now be unassigned.

yes, this is correct, once Premium Subscription will expire, the site will receive:
a free Editor X domain, Editor X branding on top and will lose Premium features like domain connection.
If the domain won’t expire, you will be able to connect it back to the site with a new Premium Subscription.
