Feature Request: Partner Role

PARTNER ROLE FEATURE REQUEST

REQUEST

We would really like to see a Partner Role within Roles & Permissions.

CURRENT SCENARIO

Many of our clients begin a site on Wix and then call us help. They have already uploaded images, logos, text, pricing, etc.

To get our work done we need to duplicate or upgrade hosting. Current roles only allow us to do this as owner. But there are clients who have difficulty understanding what “ownership” means. Transferring ownership of the site becomes a tripping point.

We spend too much time explaining that:

  • We are not taking ownership of their content.

  • They are not transferring their copyright.

  • We are not taking ownership of their domain name.

  • They can request the site to be transferred back any time if they are not satisfied.

Even when they finally understand there are glitches. Despite being given clear and concise direction they often choose the wrong role like co-owner. This is the case when even being asked to become just a website manager. This is understandable. The reason they are coming to us is that all this tech stuff is not their forte.

PARTNER ROLE CONCEPT

We suggest that Wix offers a Partner Role. This new role would automatically transfer the host plan to the partner and give the client a Client Role - clearly representing the relationship.

Wix would explain that the Partner now assumes the cost and responsibility of the host plan, allows them to build the site, and takes all the burden from the client. It gives the Partner full access (like the current owner role) and sets the Client becomes the co-owner.

This transforms an awkward moment into a positive first step. It makes the client feel like…well…a client… and still in charge.

NEW PARTNER ROLE SCENARIO

In this new scenario, the partner explains that the agency works for the client. And the agency will take care of their host plan and the designing/building of their site. We just need to define that role on Wix.

The partner asks the client to go to their Wix account then go to Roles and Permissions for their existing site. The client is instructed to select Partner Role and invite the partner. Wix transfers and adjusts roles.

Simple, easy, and beneficial.

WHY?

This removes the explanations and concerns in what is the first step in the client-partner relationship. It keeps things smooth, easy to do, and functional. It also steers away from the rabbit hole of defining “ownership."

And the beautiful thing… it offers more …

Wix has created the client-partner relationship model to help customers build they sites on Wix premium plans and provide clients what they need to be happy on these plans. The Partner Role feature builds on that concept. It is a better, more accurate, reflection of the relationship between Client->Partner->Wix. And it strengthens the ties between Wix, partner, and client.

BONUS

Even if a partner starts a site from scratch and does not need to have the client duplicate/transfer or set roles, then using a Partner Role still makes sense. When the site is published on a premier pan, the partner then can assign the Client Role to the the client and keep the Partner Role for themselves. This maintains an authentic and true-to-form relationship.

CONCLUSION

We know that there are workarounds for this. But we believe streamlining the process will benefit all the stakeholders.

You can upgrade the site as a billing manager. The client just needs to add their own credit card information (as a payments manager).

Here is a list of the current roles:

Wix Partners: Default Team Management Roles & Permissions | Help Center | Wix.com.

A lot of what you are asking for is already here.

Brett,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, true. But if a partner needs to duplicate, transfer hosting plans, purchase and assign a new premier plan, and access / edit all aspects of the site - which is the situation we almost always find ourselves in - we have to ask the client to cobble together the permissions/roles or ask for ownership. Or am I missing something? :flushed:

Website manager and billing manager will allow everything you mentioned except duplicating and reassigning plans. Only the owner can duplicate and reassign a plan. How many clients have multiple sites where you normally move plans around?

Most partners keep the site inside their own account and pass roles to their client - payment manager, and back office manager.

It works both ways whether the client is owner and they assign you roles, or if you own the site and pass the appropriate role to the client. It depends on your flow and preference.

Yes, yes, yes! We want to keep the sites on our end. But when you have clients who have built a large site with images, text, etc. and you want to have them transfer so we need a Partner Role to take ownership without explanations and wasting time.

I understand. No, there isn’t a role for that. You will have to ask them to xfer.

Thanks for clarifying Ed!

Thanks Brett. You gave me food for thought and a workaround.

We have had a number of clients that don’t need for us to build from scratch because of the work they’ve done already. We can save them the cost too. But it wastes too much time explaining transfer of ownership.

I also value what Wix is doing with Partners and would like to see that initiative grow. I hope other partners will consider this feature.

Thanks again!

Another issue related to this. A client who is keeping their current Wix site up and live, so they can run their business, asked if the invoices will port over to the duplicate site we are redesigning. Unless someone has good news I am about to tell them NO. Anyone?

The Partner role would help us take care of this better as well.

Hi there, this is not possible at the moment. You can vote for this request here .

Thanks Steven. I voted!

Glad I could help!

A followup to this request. Two more major issues to the current roles and why we need a Partner Role.

First, a client can’t set up their own Wix business line to run their business. As a partner who hosts their site, we are the only ones who can set up the line. And then we stay as owner of the business line and make the client call agents. Our clients want the Wix line to grow their business and connect it to their e-commerce store and Wix app. But we, as Partners, don’t want to be connected to their business number or their private business communications. We just want to manage their site. And…we have to upgrade the business line and charge the client double to add them on the new call agent plan.

Second, and likely more important, since we are the site Owner (and becoming owners of more sites as we add more clients to the Evolve plan each month) we are the only ones who can set up Wix payments. Even with co-owner permissions the client cannot set up Wix payments. They need the Partner to add the Client’s banking info and other confidential data. And the Partner will have access to this info as long as the site remains with the Partner.

Both situations put Partners and Clients difficult and vulnerable situations. We really need better roles to avoid these challenges.

We’ve been using Wix since almost the start. We love Wix. That’s why are a partner. The Partner program is amazing. So this is not a complaint. This a nudge to grow beyond the current restrictions.

We’d like to spend less time explaining to client’s and talking to support about these challenges.

Hi Ed, I went ahead and shared this post with our PM.

Thank you! It means a lot! :sunglasses:

@ed59260 you’re welcome!

@ed59260 hi i don’t think you need to duplicate the site. what i have done in the past was created hidden pages that were duplicates of the existing site. This would allow me to do the changes I thought were efficient Without interrupting the current site. Just make sure you test!
