Migrate to WordPress due to item limits & pricing?

Question:
I need to build a learning website with a large number of items (possibly at least 50k) and students. The number of items and newly created content will be relatively high. However, I cannot afford the current Wix pricing plans. I found a guide from WordPress about migrating to their platform (WordPress Import Guide). Should I migrate, or would using an external database be a better solution?

Product:
Wix CMS and pricing plans

What are you trying to achieve:
I need a platform that allows me to manage a large number of items efficiently without excessive costs. I am considering migrating to WordPress or using an external database solution.

What have you already tried:
I have explored Wix’s pricing plans, checked the item limits, and read about possible alternatives such as external databases and platform migrations.

Additional information:
The website will continuously generate new content and grow in data size. I am looking for a long-term solution that balances flexibility, scalability, and cost efficiency.

P.S.: Has anyone successfully migrated to WordPress before?

From my own experience, you’ll find a lot of platforms now offer a “Row count” based quota, unless they are a dedicated DB service.

As you mentioned, you have the option to integrate external databases.

Since you’re building a learning website, have you explored if Wix Online Programs fits your needs? It focuses on that “courses/learning” side of things. (Plus the data from Wix apps don’t count towards your item quota)

Thank you very much for your advice. However, Wix Online Programs may not be sufficient for my intended use. Additionally, it seems that buttons on iPhone respond a bit slower, with a noticeable delay compared to Android (I’m not sure if it’s because I have many custom elements), which slightly worsens the learning experience. That also contributes to my thoughts on the matter. By the way, I have been a long-time Wix user.
